2012 Opponent Preview Week 8 & 9: Washington Redskins face Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers
In this edition of opponent preview, we will look in to the middle part of the Washington Redskins’ season.
This time we will preview games that will be played in Week 8 and 9 of the regular season. Redskins will play Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8. After that they will host Oakland Raiders in Week 9.
Week 8: Pittsburgh Steelers
Playing against Pittsburgh Steelers at their home is a mighty task for any team, let alone the Redskins.
Steelers will be looking to advance further this season as compared to the last season in which they finished the regular season 12-4 and were playing title winning football until their miserable loss to Denver Broncos in the Playoffs.
This season, there are many questions about Steelers keeping up their performance. The major reason for that is the aging roster. Many of their top players are in their mid 30’s. It is uncertain that whether they will be able to maintain
their standard of game-play.
They will be looking towards their quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to keep the offence going. He is a type of player who can cope up with whatever support he has.
Head-to-Head
Redskins and Steelers have faced each other on 76 occasions. Redskins have won 42 times while Steelers have won 31. Three games were tied.
Week 8: Carolina Panthers
In Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers have one of the finest young talents, but it seems that they are asking too much from him in his second year in the league.
Newton surprised many with outstanding performance in his rookie season. He also broke a record previously held by Payton Manning.
Yet apart from Newton, the rest of the team was far from impressive. This was especially true for the defence.
Panthers head coach Ron Rivera was aware of the situation. Therefore he drafted Luke Kuechly in order to strengthen the defensive side of the game.
This will be a very exciting game as two of the most promising talents in the league will play on the same field. Expect this game to be a very high scoring one.
Head-to-Head
Redskins and Panthers have played 10 games against each other. Redskins have won seven games while Panthers have won three games.
