2012 Polish Open: Michal Suski confounds Leon Seiwald in Men’s Singles qualification round
Men’s Singles shuttler Michal Suski played impeccable badminton and enthralled Leon Seiwald in his opening match of the qualification round in the Polish Open on Thursday, August 30, 2012.
He locked the honour with a favourable result of 16-21, 21-10 and 21-10 after an exhausting exercise of 30 minutes.
He displayed commendable fighting skills and sealed a splendid win despite losing the first set of the match.
On the other hand, Leon squandered his laudable effort of the opening game and knelt down tamely on crucial moments of the battle.
The Austrian campaigner looked in prime touch while beating the native shuttler in the first set. He stood tall to his stature also against the strong opposition of the local crowd.
He mounted pressure with a series of well crafted strokes which helped him establish a decent lead straight away in the beginning.
He capitalised this early advantage in the next couple of rallies and left his challenger far behind before the announcement of a one-minute break.
Later part of the game was filled with great sensation as the opposing shuttler showed his class and ruled the court in the third quarter of the set.
However, this short campaign did not harm Leon much as he stole the limelight with a dazzling performance of 21-16.
The second set brought life back into contest as the Polish campaigner switched on his best after slipping down and levelled the match score.
This time he did not repeat his previous mistakes and kept his competitor grounded throughout this crucial set.
He established a strong grip over game by putting an indomitable total of 11-2 before the interval and then magnified the impact with an 11-point lead in the concluding figure of 21-10.
A lot of fireworks were expected in the decider which had turned into a survival of the fittest war.
Both shuttlers were locked in tough competition with one win each and they were desperate to pocket the final match point.
Initially, they remained close on the points table but then Michal made up the difference with some nonstop rallies. He maintained this flow and swept the table with a 21-10 margin.
Now he will face Mateusz Dubowski in the second stage of the qualification round of this International Series.
