2012 Polish Open: Sarka Krizkova, Katerina Tomalova tread into Women’s Doubles quarter-finals
Czech Republic’s talented campaigners Sarka Krizkova-Katerina Tomalova showed superb coordination and secured a quarter-final berth in the Polish Open on Friday, August 31, 2012.
They overwhelmed the higher ranked pair of Sarina Kohlfurst-Nathalie Ziesig by displaying superior badminton skills.
This Women’s Doubles encounter lasted for 43 minutes before ending with final figures of 20-22, 21-11 and 21-13.
Now the victorious duo is scheduled to meet Alexandra Langley-Jenny Wallwork and a win will take them into the semi-final round of this International Series.
The Czech female shuttlers have alarmed all the contestants by stamping the third seeded Austrian couple in their opening match.
They showed commendable fighting spirit and sealed a 2-1 victory despite slipping in first set of the match.
Sarka and Katerina took some time to read their rivals’ game and kept trailing behind them all the way to game point situation.
First sign of trouble came when they failed to withstand an intensive attack from the opposing team and knelt down in a couple of preliminary rallies.
The twosome of Sarina and Nathalie established grip over the game with a 7-3 total and then doubled the impact by registering a 11-7 margin before the interval.
Later part of the game saw Sarka-Katerina putting a laudable effort to narrow the gap but that short campaign was not enough to avoid a 20-22 defeat.
However, they did not remain at the lower end permanently and brought the contest to the right balance by claiming the second match point.
This time, their partnership yielded good results and both female players finished the first half of the set with an 11-6 score on the board.
After one-minute break, the opposing team showed some spark but Sarka-Katerina struck hard when it mattered and bagged this crucial game with a staggering knock of 21-11.
There was a lot of drama in the third set of the match as both teams remained neck-and-neck on the points table but then the Czech campaigners made the difference by showing superior finishing skills.
Sarka and Katerina, who were underrated earlier in this event, proved themselves late bloomers and emerged victorious with a significant eight-point lead in the concluding margin.
They laid the foundation of their dominance with 11-8 and then magnified the impact with a favourable figure of 21-13.
