2012 Season Opponent Preview: New York Giants battle Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17
It will be the second meeting of these two teams in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season and could be the most exciting of all.
Although it is also possible that the game does not affect any team’s fate in the season, it is also possible that the entire structure of the National Football Conference (NFC) East division depends on this encounter.
It is possible as it happened the last time with the Giants as well. It was not clear until the very last game as to which team will qualify for the playoffs from the division.
Giants faced Dallas Cowboys in a do-or-die game in week 17 and the former managed to win and qualify for the playoffs. Giants won a total of nine games in the regular season while Eagles and Cowboys had eight victories each.
If the 2012 season comes down to the regular season finale between Giants and Eagles, it will surely be more exciting than the Cowboys-Giants game of the 2011 season, when the Giants were able to win rather easily.
Both teams are playoff contenders and it will certainly be interesting to see how the overall competition in the NFC East goes this season. Do not underestimate Cowboys as well.
Head-to-head
Giants and Eagles are going to play two games (one in week 4 and the other in week 17) in the upcoming season against each other. In terms of head-to-head record, Giants are leading with 83-75. Both teams have faced each other four times in playoffs and both have two victories each. Two of their meetings ended in a tie.
Last meeting
Giants faced Eagles twice in the last season. The recent meeting took place in Week 11.
It was not a good time for Giants as they were undergoing a slump while Eagles, fortunately, were surging at that time after starting the season miserably.
It was a low-scoring game in which the first and third quarter went scoreless. Eagles scored a field goal and a touchdown in the second quarter in which Giants got a field goal.
Both teams scored a touchdown each in the final quarter as the Eagles won the game. The final score settled at 17-10.
