2012 Season Opponent Preview: New York Giants face Atlanta Falcons in Week 15
Both these teams, especially the Atlanta Falcons, have not forgotten their last meeting. The New York Giants humiliated the Falcons in the first playoff game last season and the latter needs to respond in the 2012 season.
The Giants are going to face the Falcons pretty late in the season and by the time these two teams face each other in week 15, it is expected that the situation of many teams in the National Football Conference (NFC) will be clear.
By the looks of things, Falcons might not be a tough challenge for the Giants as the latter has a comparatively strong offence and defence.
However, Giants must not completely underestimate the Falcons as they have also done some homework this time.
The last time when these two sides met, Giants were still improving and surging. They did well to strengthen their defence as a result of which the Falcons had to face the defeat.
But this time the Falcons will prepare for the defence in advance and could cause trouble for the defending champions.
Falcons have consecutively qualified for the playoffs since the last two seasons and they are hoping for three in a row, but they have to improve their passing game if they want to progress.
Head-to-head
Giants and Falcons have played 21 games against each other. Giants have won 11 games while Falcons have won 10. They have only played each other one time in the playoffs and the Giants emerged victorious in that encounter. They are going to play one game against each other in the 2012 season.
Last meeting
The last time these two sides faced each other was in the 2011 season. It was a wildcard game of the postseason and the fans were expecting a thrilling encounter.
Entering that game the Giants were on a two-game winning streak, while the Falcons had one victory and were looking to build a streak.
Falcons were unfortunate as their offence was unable to register even a single scoring move in that game. Falcons got two points when the defence sacked Giants quarterback Eli Manning in his own end zone.
Giants defence dominated the rest of the game and did not allow Falcons to score while Giants managed to register a few scoring moves to win the game.
The final score settled at 24-2.
