2012 Season Preview: Dallas Cowboys to take on Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3
After playing their first two games of the season on road, Dallas Cowboys will return home to host their first game of the season in Week 3 against Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The lowly Buccaneers finished 4-12 in the last season and ended up at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) South.
Cowboys went off track last season during their last few games. They lost four of their last five games and eventually failed to qualify for the postseason. Interestingly, their only victory in the last five games came against the Bucs.
This gives Cowboys an upper hand against the Bucs. Also, Cowboys have better roster than Buccaneers and the former’s offence and defence are much more capable of dominating their opponents.
However, Cowboys must stay careful and cautious. They should not provide even a single loophole and be disciplined if they need an easy victory.
For Tampa Bay, they have to be strong on offence as Cowboys’ defence can surprise them. If they are able to secure more scoring moves then they could turn the game in their favour.
Head-to-head
Cowboys and Buccaneers have played 15 games against each other. In their regular season meetings, Cowboys have won 10 while Buccaneers have won three games. In playoffs, both teams have faced each other twice and both games were won by Cowboys. Buccaneers
and Cowboys are going to play only one game against each other in the 2012 season.
Last meeting
Their last meeting was a pretty one-sided game, for most part at least. In Week 15 game of the last season, Cowboys maintained their dominance right from the start.
In the first quarter, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo created many opportunities while the defence successfully controlled the Bucs.
Romo got a touchdown early in the first quarter and then managed to get another before the end of the quarter.
Romo carried the momentum into the second quarter and sent his third touchdown-pass of the game, which was soon followed by his fourth touchdown-pass. Buccaneers were still struggling to get their first scoring move.
In the third quarter, the Bucs finally got a chance to progress. They scored two touchdowns, but the Cowboys also got a field goal.
No team scored in the final quarter as the final score (31-15) settled in Cowboys’ favour.
