2012 Season Preview: Philadelphia Eagles face New York Giants in Week 4, Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 5
To say that the first three weeks of the regular season in which Philadelphia Eagles will take on Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals will be relatively easy for them is an understatement, but the teams awaiting Eagles in Week 4 and
5 are even more threatening.
Week 4: New York Giants
The defending Super Bowl champions and the major hurdle for the Eagles in the National Football Conference (NFC) East, New York Giants, will provide a tough challenge to the Eagles.
Eagles played a game against the Giants early in the last season and lost it. They are hoping to have a different start to this season’s campaigns.
Although Eagles defeated the Giants in their second meeting of the 2011 season, they still could not prevent the Giants from qualifying for the playoffs.
It is not impossible for Eagles to defeat the Giants, but they have to be disciplined if they want to succeed.
Giants are already pretty strong on offence and defence, but they have to carry the momentum from the last season into the 2012 season or else Eagles might edge past them.
Head-to-Head
Eagles and Giants have played 160 games against each other. Eagles have won 75 of them while Giants have 83 victories to their name. Two games were tied. Both teams are going to face each other twice in the 2012 season.
Week 5: Pittsburgh Steelers
Another playoff team from the last season, Pittsburgh Steelers, is pretty aggressive on offence. Steelers lost their first playoff game against the Denver Broncos last season, but their overall performance was not below par.
That being noted, Steelers are coming into the 2012 season with new offensive coach Todd Haley, who has reportedly introduced new teaching method.
Initially, the players were not very happy with the coaching style, but they seem to have adapted to it quite nicely.
If the players grab the new coach’s philosophy they could be a threatening force, but if that does not happen Eagles will be dominant against the Steelers.
For Eagles, it is very important to be very disciplined and strong on the defence so as to get a chance of winning this encounter.
Head-to-Head
Both teams have faced each other 77 times. Eagles have won 47 games while Steelers have 27 victories under their belt. Three games were tied. Both teams are going to play one game against each other in the 2012 season.
