2012 Season Preview: Philadelphia Eagles take on Carolina Panthers in Week 12
After http://www.senore.com/2012-Season-Preview-Philadelphia-Eagles-face-Dallas-Cowboys-in-Week-10,-Washington-Redskins-in-Week-11-a169930 two opponents from the National Football Conference (NFC) East, the Philadelphia Eagles will play a home game against Carolina Panthers in Week 12.
The Panthers are struggling to reach the playoffs since the last three seasons. In the 2008, they had a 12-4 regular season that allowed them to easily qualify for the postseason, but they have not yet been able to qualify for the playoffs since then.
In the 2009 season, they finished 8-8. The dropped to 2-14 in the 2010 season while their last season was not very commendable as well as they ended up winning six games of the regular season and lost 10.
As the Panthers prepare for the 2012 season, they have something to cheer about owing to the presence of quarterback Cam Newton on the roster.
Selected as the first overall pick in the 2011 draft, Newton performed exceptionally well in his rookie season. He registered 4,051 passing yards while throwing 21 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
If Newton is able to lead the offence right from the start of the season then Panthers might be able to qualify for the postseason.
As for Eagles, they have a very simple recipe to follow if they want to beat Panthers. Eagles just have to be strong on defence. If they apply pressure on Newton and block his receivers well then they are up for a smooth encounter that can easily go their
way.
However, if they take Panthers lightly, the Eagles might not get the desired result out of this game.
Head-to-head
Eagles and Panthers have faced each other seven times. Eagles have an edge with five victories while Panthers have only won twice. Both have played only one playoff game against each other and Panthers won that game.
Last meeting
Eagles faced Panthers in their regular season opener in 2009. Panthers started that game well and took the lead by scoring a touchdown in the first quarter. Eagles replied by scoring a field goal.
However, Eagles easily outscored Panthers in the second quarter as the former scored four touchdowns while Panthers could only get one field goal. Eagles stretched their lead by scoring another touchdown in the third quarter. The final score settled at 38-10.
