2012 Season Preview: Philadelphia Eagles to take on Detroit Lions in Week 6
The surging Detroit Lions are capable of defeating even some of the best teams in the National Football League (NFL).
After a miserable 2008 season, the Lions have done remarkably well to recover. In the 2008 season, they were unable to register even a single victory and lost all 16 games of the regular season.
Their performance improved slightly after the introduction of Jim Schwartz as head coach and in the 2009 season, the Lions ended up winning two games in the regular season.
They were even better in the 2010 season and won six games while losing 10.
In the last season, they continued their surge and recorded 10 victories in the regular season to qualify for the playoffs where they lost against New Orleans Saints.
The recovery received a push last season as quarterback Matthew Stafford was able to remain hundred percent fit.
If the trend continues, which is quite possible, Lions will once again go for a playoff spot and this time they will look to extend their stay in the postseason campaign.
Eagles will face a tough challenge from the Lions beyond any doubt. However, they are still capable of overcoming them, provided they utilise their experience.
If quarterback Michael Vick is able to make strong plays and DeSean Jackson and LeSean McCoy contribute their share properly, the Eagles will be able to score more points.
Also, the defence needs to be on its toes. Stafford combines amazingly well with Calvin Johnson and Eagles must prevent these two players from building a partnership.
Head-to-Head
Eagles and Lions have faced each other 30 times. Eagles have won 16 games while Lions have 12 wins to their credit. Two games were tied. Both teams have only played one playoff game against each other.
In the 2012 season, Eagles and Lions are going to play only one game against each other.
Last Meeting
The last meeting between these two sides took place in the 2010 season. It was a very close encounter that was eventually won by Eagles 35-32.
After Week 6 game, Eagles will have their bye that will be followed by a busy schedule as they will have 10 more games to play in the season.
