2012 Slovak Open: Lubos Petrovsky stuns Ignas Reznikas in Men’s Singles qualification round

Slovakia’s talented shuttler Lubos Petrovsky is one step closer to the main round of the Victor Slovak Open as he toppled Ignas Reznikas in the opening match of the qualification round on September 6, 2012.
However, it was not an easy run to the victory as he had to swing his arms for 37 minutes to read favourable figures of 17-21, 21-11 and 21-17.
This hard fought battle was staged at the local badminton arena of Presov in Slovakia and it kept the audience intact until the last shot was played.
The Lithuanian campaigner took a great start but he could not go with the same flow in the following games and crashed out of the tournament.
In the opening set, Ignas displayed unbeatable craft on the court and stamped his supremacy in a commendable manner.
He did not waste time and got into a commanding position with a few uninterrupted points. He carried this momentum in next couple of rallies and left his rival far behind with a decent total of 11 at half time.
After the mid-game break, there was a dramatic change in the status as the local shuttler made swift progress and narrowed the gap.
Though, Lubos put up a laudable effort but this short campaign did not make any difference and he lost the first set with 17-21 score on the board.
However, this blow did not harm him much as he stood tall to his stature in the very next game. He showed elevated craft and saved some honour with an impressive knock.
Ignas, who was bit relaxed after his initial success, was not ready for such a strong reply and he remained grounded in most part of the game.
The Slovakian player made the best out of his challenger’s blunders and kept on increasing pressure. He placed an indomitable total of 11 before the interval and then swept the table with an overwhelming margin of 21-11.
Third set of the match proved a real test of mental and physical strength for both shuttlers as they were desperately looking to pocket the final point to ensure their presence in this event.
They kept chasing each other until the third quarter of the set and this neck-and-neck competition ended when Lubos Petrovsky sealed his victory with 21-17 total.
