2012 Summer Bash Tournament: Melvin Tok, Rulien Yeh clinch top spot in Mixed Doubles event
Mixed Doubles team Melvin Tok-Rulien Yeh did not break the chain of success in LABC Summer Bash Tournament and stamped Shun Fujinami-Pam Pilouk in title match on June 24, 2012.
This hard fought encounter lasted for three gruelling sets and both teams played entertaining badminton while registering decisive figure of 21-18, 17-21 and 21-17.
The victorious duo played with right attitude and fortitude to bag the opening and closing segments of show while the losing team could flourish only in the second set.
In first set of the match, Melvin Tok and Rulien Yeh showed their intentions straight away in start when they gathered four consecutive points after 4-3 score and reached a dominating position of 8-3.
They did not lose this rhythm in next couple of rallies and managed to place a decent total of 11-6 before the interval.
After one-minute interval, they made some unforced errors which put them on back-foot against the spirited rivals.
The twosome of Shun Fujinami and Pam Pilouk relished this opportunity and narrowed the gap at 11-13 but they could not carry this momentum in the final moments of the set.
Melvin and Rulien served notice of their supremacy by registering winning margin of 21-18 in opening game of the match.
However, the opposing team brought the contest to right balance by grabbing second match point. Their coordination was superb this time as they did not blunder at any stage of the game.
They set the ball rolling by dominating in the first half of the set with scoreboard flashing 11-8 in their favour.
Later part of the game started with both teams injecting some speed in rallies. They kept on chasing each other until 19-17 but Shun Fujinami and Pam Pilouk finished this race by reaching at the concluding margin of 21-17.
This result turned decider crucial as both contenders were standing just one win away from glory.
They strived hard to exceed their opponent in third and final set of match but none of them could hit the mark until the last moments.
They were locked in tense situation of 18-17 when Melvin and Rulien snatched three points in a row and pushed their rivals into the dark with a 21-17 total.
