2012 Syed Modi International India GPG: Kim Hyo Min tames Varsha V Belawadi in qualifying round
Korea’s lower ranked but talented shuttler Kim Hyo Min served notice of her potential in the qualifying round of Shaheed Dr. K.L. Garg - Syed Modi International India GPG as she defeated Varsha V Belawadi on December 18, 2012.
This encounter was really a brief meeting as it ended in just two games with decisive figures of 21-8 and 21-10.
The Korean campaigner, who is fourth seeded player in this round, made her intentions clear straight away in the beginning of first set when she prevailed in five consecutive rallies.
Hyo Min did not squander this initial advantage and transformed it into an unassailable lead. She looked in prime touch in next couple of rallies as her competitor could not find even a single counterattack opportunity.
Though, Varsha Belawadi had a huge support of local crowd in badminton complex of Lucknow but still she failed to make amends and remained at the lower end until mid-game break.
On the other hand, the opposing shuttler played with great conviction and placed a respectable total of 11-4 before interval.
The latter part of game was also dominated by Hyo Min as she showed consistency in her performance and toppled the native player.
The Korean Women’s Singles expert mounted pressure by registering an indomitable figure of 17-5 and then maintained that notable difference until last shot was played.
She did not allow her challenger to come back and bagged this vital match point with 21-8 score on the board.
Next game was also a one-sided affair as Hyo Min capitalised her first set win and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
She played cautiously in the establishing rallies and this approach resulted in 4-4 margin but then there was lot of fireworks in remaining part of the game.
At first, she added three valuable points in her total and then widened the gap with 11-5 figure before the announcement of break.
After the one-minute interval, Hyo Min showed her real panache and trounced the Indian shuttler with a stunning knock.
She wrapped this segment with a favourable score of 21-10 and setup her next clash with Chochuwong Pornpawee of Thailand.
