2012 Syed Modi International: P. V. Sindhu surges into Women’s Singles semi-final round
India’s talented shuttler P. V. Sindhu served notice of her potential in the quarter-finals of Syed Modi International India GPG and gained access to semi-finals on Friday, December 21, 2012.
She was up against the Indonesian campaigner Febby Angguni and their meeting remained in full swing until the final figures of 21-13 and 21-17.
This tussle took place in the local badminton arena of Lucknow and a huge crowd gathered to encourage the spirited native shuttler.
P.V. Sindhu did not disappoint her supporters and gave them a solid reason to celebrate by registering a straight-set victory.
She looked in prime touch throughout this encounter as the opposing shuttler could not pocket even a single match point and bid adieu to this GP Gold event in a woeful manner.
The second seeded Indian player laid foundation of her supremacy immediately in the beginning of first set as she launched a brisk attack and piled up a significant margin.
She kept her challenger under control in the establishing rallies and put her under huge pressure by placing a mountainous total of 8.
Though, Febby made every effort to counterbalance the situation but she could not hit the mark until half time.
Sindhu played flawless badminton and finished first half of the set with 11-5 margin. She did not lose this rhythm in latter part of the game and wrapped this segment of showdown with a favourable figure of 21-13.
However, the second set was not a one sided affair as the Indonesian campaigner also showed great fighting spirit and made this a memorable contest.
Initially, Febby was bit dazzled but she came out of her competitor’s influence and established a respectable lead on merit.
She kept the native shuttler confused with a fine blend of power packed smashes and masterly crafted drop net shots.
At this stage, Sindhu did not lose nerves and employed an effective counterattack strategy. She levelled the score at 6-6 and then tipped the scale in her favour with 11-7 total.
After the mid-game break, she gathered some pace and cruised to victory with an impressive result of 21-17.
Now Sindhu is scheduled to meet Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand in the semi-finals of Syed Modi International India GPG.
