2012 The year of the comeback
It has been a funny year so far, though the season is not over yet but it is reaching its climax. We have once again seen three new different winners at the majors. The year 2012 has all been about comebacks, meltdown and drama that make this game of golf
pretty interesting.
At the start of the year, nobody would have thought that Tiger Woods will probably be the most successful player of the season. He has already won three tournaments this year. He also leads the FedEx points and money leaders list.
Tiger has not won a major this year but he has been extremely close a couple of times. At the US Open, he was on the driving seat at one time but lost his way in the middle of the event.
Again, at the Open Championship, he was so close yet so far. His triple bogey in the last round probably cost him his 15th major title.
We have some flashes of brilliance from the former world number one but all that matters to him is the majors. Tiger is looking to outdo the great Jack Nicklaus for the most number of major wins.
At the Royal Lytham, during the Open Championship, we saw a magnificent fight between the South African, Ernie Els and Adam Scott.
Going into the last round, Els was seven shots behind the leader, Adam Scott but his back nine blitz was just enough to put pressure on the Australian.
Adam Scott bogeyed on the last four holes to surrender the lead. He needed a par to force the game into a playoff but he missed a fairly simple putt.
Adam Scott’s down fall at the Open is probably the biggest melt down of the year.
Other major notable comebacks made this year are by Marc Leishman at the Travellers Championship, when he came from six shots behind to win the championship.
Brandt Snedeker also had a great comeback at the Farmers Insurance Open, he was seven shots behind going in the final round but rallied to secure the victory.
Kyle Stanely was eight shots behind at the Waste Management Phoenix Open until he pulled up his socks and took the title.
