2012 U.S. Girls' Junior final will pitch Alison Lee and Minjee Lee against each other
This year’s the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship has been full of surprises. The latest twist is the most stunning, with two players named Lee competing for the final prize.
Alison Lee and Minjee Lee will play the final match of the most prestigious young women golfer tournament on the US golf calendar.
How these two reached this point is something that experts are clearly baffled about. When the draws for semi finals were announced, the observers and commentators announced their verdict.
Both these players, Alison Lee and Minjee Lee, did not stand a chance against the top women amateurs, Lydia Ko and Ariya Jutanugarn. How they could beat such talented players is beyond everyone.
Consider the match between Alison Lee and Lydia Ko. While Alison is relatively unknown, Ko is a well known golfer with a string of wins to her credit. Ko is the current world’s number one amateur, a fact that speaks volumes about her skills as a golfer.
The result of the match was very disappointing for Ko and her fans. With a score of 2 and 1 in Alison’s favour, the American player clearly had an edge over the New Zealand’s superstar.
After the game, Alison had kind word for Ko. She said, “After the match was over I was kind of bummed because she has a lot of expectations too because she’s No. 1, but I’m glad I won in the end. I still have feelings for how she feels because I’ve been
there before”.
As for the other Lee, things were very surprising. After the win over Ariya Jutanugarn, Minjee Lee was so excited that she was talking only in half sentences. When asked for a comment after the match she said, “Happy. Thank God. Relief. Obviously. Pumped.
Excited. I’m ready”.
Even Ariya Jutanugarn had trouble explaining what happed during the match. She said, “I don’t know what happened.”
This was exactly what the fans and experts felt about the match. Perhaps an explanation was offered by Minjee herself. She said that she went into the game with complete determination and willed herself to win.
The finals will be as exciting as the semi-finals.
