2012 US Grand Prix back on track as Austin Council approves funding – Formula 1 news
Recent reports have revealed that the 2012 US Grand Prix is now back on track as the Americas’ Texan state funding was approved by the Austin Council recently which means that the annual funding of the track until the next decade has now been confirmed.
“Mr Ecclestone has most of the say for when these races are scheduled,” project attorney Richard Suttle told the media.
There were rumours that the organisers of the event were going through some major issues as they were denied their initial funding which was promised by the Austin Council.
As a result, the construction work at the venue was deeply affected and it was believed that if the funds were not approved, then the event might even get cancelled for the 2012 Formula 1 season. However, it now seems that the organisers of the sport do
not have to worry about that anymore.
However, it is still believed that the race should not be held in the summers since the weather in Austin at that time is very hot which is not suitable for the Formula 1 cars.
Other than that, the turnout would also be affected massively which would make it very difficult for the organisers of the track to cover the cost spent in organising the US Grand Prix.
“If you ask my personal preference, I would prefer it be in the fall,” Circuit president Steve Sexton added.
Reports revealed that the council following a voting process which resulted in favour of the project by 5-2 as a result of which, the organisers have now secured $25 million per year for the next 10 years of the US Grand Prix.
A lengthy debate in the council chamber took place recently after which the organisers of the sport agreed that the event is going to be held in 2012. However, the spot given to the US Grand Prix in the 2012 Formula 1 calendar is still going to be revised
according to the organisers of the event.
