2012 Vietnam Open: A shocking exit for Ki Jung, Sa Rang from Men’s Doubles event
It was end of road for Korea in the Men’s Doubles event of Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open GP as their top seeded team Kim Ki Jung-Kim Sa Rang lost the semi-final match on Saturday, August 25, 2012.
World Number 17 pair, who was hot favourite for this Grand Prix title, disappointed the supporters by kneeling down against an unseeded duo Yohanes Rendy Sugiarto-Afiat Yuris Wirawan.
The Korean campaigners remained at the bottom end in most part of this 50-minute battle whereas the lower ranked but spirited Indonesian team registered its mark by putting a favourable margin of 21-16, 15-21 and 21-19.
Men’s Doubles experts Ki Jung and Sa Rang looked completely out of touch throughout this encounter as they could rise only in the second set of the match.
In the opening game, they had a horrendous start losing a few back-to-back points broke their backbone and they stayed grounded until last shot was played.
The twosome of Rendy Sugiarto and Yuris Wirawan played impeccable badminton and established a decent lead with figure of 11 on points table.
They did not lose this rhythm in later part of the game and finished the first set with a decisive margin of 21-16.
However, the top seeded Korean campaigners showed some elevated craft in the following game and managed to bring the contest to the right balance.
This time they played with an authoritative approach and dominated their rivals all the way to game point situation.
Their strategy was right from the coaching book as it was a fine blend of power packed campaigns and deceiving net play.
Ki Jung and Sa Rang looked completely on song as they outclassed their challengers in bolth mental and physical aspects of the game.
They bagged the first half with an indomitable total of 11 and then doubled the impact by registering 21-15 score on the board.
Conversely, it was sheer disappointment for their supporters in third set as they faltered again and allowed the opposing team to lock the honour.
The twosome of Ki Jung and Sa Rang was in strong position to seal a splendid victory but then a couple of mistakes triggered the collapse and they faced a 19-21 defeat.
