Indonesia’s talented shuttler Aprilla Yuswandari registered her presence in Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open GP as she overpowered Xiaoyu Liang in her opening match on August 22, 2012.
This epic tussle prolonged to 65 minutes and both contenders displayed commendable craft on the court to read final figures of 26-24, 19-21 and 21-13.
Women’s Singles campaigner Aprilla, who is holding eighth spot in tournament ranking, showed good finishing skills to lock the honour by claiming the first and last set of the match.
Though, the opposing shuttler had to face an early exit but still she earned great admiration for putting laudable effort throughout this hard fought battle.
The Singaporean player Xiaoyu Liang proved her mettle in the very first set as she challenged her high ranked rival in all areas of the game.
She took some time to gain the right momentum but a couple of uninterrupted rallies kick-started her campaign and she started leading her opponent.
In the first half, both players put all in their possession to establish an unassailable lead but neither could make difference until mid-game break.
Later part of the game was also played in same manner as both female shuttlers chased each other all the way to game point situation. This race ended when Aprilla Yuswandari registered a decisive margin of 26-24.
The Indonesian shuttler started the following game with right attitude and gained an early advantage.
At one stage, she was in strong position to seal the victory in just two games but then couple of fatal mistakes turned her plans to dust.
First sign of trouble came when Aprilla dropped a few valuable points in a row and allowed her competitor to narrow the gap before the interval.
Xiaoyu Liang did not miss this opportunity and levelled match score with a favourable result of 21-19.
With such an emphatic end, the decider was supposed to be a nerve-racking tussle but it turned a dead contest in the second half.
World Number 41 Aprilla dominated overall pace of the rallies and earned the right to be in pre quarter-finals with an impressive win of 21-13.
Now she will be up against the compatriot shuttler Desi Hera in round of 16 of this Grand Prix event.
