Thailand’s Bodin Issara-Maneepong Jongjit continued with their top form and remained invincible in the title match of Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open GP on Sunday, August 26, 2012.
World Number 16 duo overpowered the lower ranked Indonesian couple of Yohanes Rendy Sugiarto-Afiat Yuris Wirawan after an exhausting exercise of 50 minute.
This Men’s Doubles tie was undoubtedly the best encounter of this Grand Prix tournament as it remained in full swing for three games before ending with final figures of 19-21, 21-16 and 21-11.
The Thai campaigners had a horrendous start but still they managed to come back from behind and locked the honour by prevailing in the final two games.
On the other hand, the opposing team frittered away their early advantage and crashed out in a disgraceful manner.
Rendy Sugiarto and Yuris Wirawan started their campaign by clinching very first match point. They looked in prime touch throughout the opening game and matched their higher ranked rivals’ skills in all areas of the game.
In the first half, the Indonesian shuttlers were bit sluggish but then they gathered some pace immediately after the mid-game break and finished the first set with a tight yet decisive margin of 21-19.
However, they could not go with the same flow in the next game as their competitors showed elevated craft and outclassed them with a gutsy performance.
This time Bodin Issara and Maneepong Jongjit did not repeat the previous mistake and launched an intensive attack straight away in the beginning.
They unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes and confined their challengers to the rear court. They did not lose their touch at any stage of this crucial set and cruised to victory with ease.
The Thai players placed an overwhelming total of 21-16 and brought the contest to the right balance. This timely win boosted their confidence for a nerve-racking decider.
Third set was expected to be a competitive tussle but it turned into dead contest after the interval.
Bodin Issara and Maneepong Jongjit showed superb coordination in the final segment and stole the show with a convincing performance.
They maintained a huge lead throughout the decider and raised their hands as champions after putting 21-11 score on the board.
