2012 Vietnam Open: Busanan Ongbumrungpan stuns Mingtian Fu in opening round match
Thailand’s Busanan Ongbumrungpan played flawless badminton and cast out Mingtian Fu to ensure her presence in pre quarter-finals of Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open GP on August 22, 2012.
This Women’s Singles showdown kept both contenders head-to-head for 55 minutes and was resolved with final result of 18-21, 21-11 and 21-16.
The underrated but spirited shuttler Busanan played with great precision and locked the honour by prevailing in the ending two segments of the battle.
Meanwhile, the Singaporean campaigner disappointed her supporters by putting a below performance in crucial moments of the match.
Mingtian Fu, who was third seeded shuttler in this Grand Prix event, took off in perfect manner but she crashed in later part of the game.
She kick-started her campaign with a brisk attack and pushed her rival on the back-foot by bagging a couple of uninterrupted points.
She relished this early advantage all the way to mid-game break and established her grip over the game with a respectable score position of 11.
After one-minute interval, Mingtian Fu injected more intensity in her attack and strengthened her grip in the third quarter of the set. She maintained the upper hand until last shot was played and won first set with 21-18 margin.
However, story was entirely different in very next game as the suppressed Thai shuttler showed transformed character and brought the contest to the right balance.
This time it was Busanan’s turn to establish an unassailable lead and enjoy that upper hand all the way to game point situation.
In the first half, she took some time to get on right track but then never looked back after gaining the required momentum.
She mounted pressure by putting a decent total of 11 before interval and then capitalised this lead in later part of the game. She gathered valuable points at steady pace and swept the table with a striking figure of 21-11.
This timely win boosted her confidence and Busanan pocketed full benefits of this psychological edge in the decider.
She dominated in most part of the game and sealed a splendid victory by registering 21-16 score on the board.
Now she will meet Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in pre quarter-finals of this Grand Prix tournament.
