2012 Vietnam Open: h*i Ern, h*i Lin clutch a seat in title match of Women’s Doubles event
Malaysia’s h*i Ern Ng-h*i Lin Ng continued their unbeatable run in Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open GP and marched into the final round of Women’s Doubles event on August 25, 2012.
World Number 35 duo, who also holds fourth spot in tournament ranking, thrashed Porntip Buranaprasertsuk-Busanan Ongbumrungpan in the semi-final round.
This 55-minute tussle lasted for three gruelling sets before ending with final figures of 18-21, 21-14 and 21-10.
The victorious pair put on a great show of fighting skills and saved some honour by claiming the ending two match points.
On the other hand, the Thai campaigners squandered their first set win and crashed out of the Grand Prix event in a disgraceful manner.
In the opening game, Porntip and Busanan played flawless badminton and outclassed their higher ranked opponents technically and tactically.
They started the beating from the very first stroke and thrashed the opposing team with a decent lead in the final margin.
Though, they lost their grip for a short span of time but a couple of productive rallies helped them to reinstate their authority.
The twosome of h*i Ern and h*i Lin made every effort to avoid an immediate blow but they had to bow down after reading 18-21 score on the board.
However, they managed to make amends in very next game as they outshined their challengers with a notable difference of seven points.
This time they did not repeat previous mistakes and confined their challengers in rear court with a flurry of power packed strokes.
They controlled overall pace of the rallies in the first half and placed a mountainous total of 11 at half time.
Later part of the game was also dominated by the Malaysian shuttlers as they did not give Porntip-Busanan even a single counter-attack opportunity and finished this set with 21-14 margin.
The Thai campaigners could not withstand this severe blow and remained at the lower end in the decider as well.
They kept trailing behind their competitors all the way to game point situation and knelt down after facing 10-21 defeat.
Now h*i Ern and h*i Lin will lock horns with Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth-Rizki Amelia Pradipta in title match of the event.
