2012 Vietnam Open: Zakry Latif, Mohd Fairuzizuan crash out of Men’s Doubles opening round
Another upset was seen in Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open GP when seasoned Men’s Doubles experts Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif-Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari had to face a first round exit on August 22, 2012.
World Number 28 Malaysian pair failed to forge fruitful chemistry against Andrei Adistia-Christopher Rusdianto and bid farewell to this Grand Prix event after receiving a severe blow of 21-19, 20-22 and 21-18 defeat.
This opening encounter remained in full swing for 55 minutes at local badminton arena of Ho Chih Minh in Vietnam and both teams put up a commendable show of skills in three sets.
The battle heated up when underrated Indonesian campaigners snatched a vital match point from relatively higher ranked rivals.
Zakry Latif and Mohd Fairuzizuan, who were placed at third spot in tournament ranking, could not read their competitors’ game in first set and knelt down after a futile exercise.
Though, they took a great start but then a few fatal mistakes triggered the collapse and they lost opening set by a hair.
Meanwhile, the opposing team did not squander any chance and enjoyed their dominance in most part of the game.
Andrei Adistia and Christopher Rusdianto showed superb coordination and bagged first match point with 21-19 score on the board.
However, things were not that easy in the following game as the Malaysians found their lost form and brought the contest to the right balance.
The twosome of Zakry and Fairuzizuan employed all of their experience and brilliance in this pressure situation and skilfully avoided a straight-set defeat.
They took some time to get into the right momentum and kept low profile in the beginning. They gradually increased the overall pace and left their challengers far behind. They served notice of their supremacy by registering a tight yet favourable margin
of 22-20.
Third set of the match was also played in the same manner as both teams entertained the crowd with prime class badminton. They remained close on points table until final moments and kept the audience glued to their chairs.
At first, Zakry and Fairuzizuan were in strong position but then couple of power packed rallies helped Andrei and Christopher to reinstate their dominance.
The Indonesian shuttlers sent their opponents packing by putting up a final result of 21-18.
