The 2012 World Ice Hockey Championships is going to start from Friday, May 04, 2012 and Team USA is almost done with its preparedness for participation in the event.
In one of the few latest developments, Team USA has named Columbus Blue Jackets’ defenseman, Jack Johnson, as its captain.
The player has been named as captain of the team in an international event for the second time. He also captained Team USA in 2010 championships.
After a couple of years, he has received another honour to lead the team in the championships to be held in Helsinki in Finland and Stockholm, Sweden.
In addition to Russia, Canada and USA, teams from the Scandinavian region are going to take part in the tournament, which after the Olympics is the major international hockey event.
Johnson is going to participate in the championships for the fourth consecutive time as in addition to participating in the championship as a captain, he has played the event at two other occasions.
He also won a silver medal while playing for Team USA in 2010. He said to have set hopes for win of the title this year.
Some commentators believe that Team USA has prospects to make an impression in the event, and the game of players like Johnson will be crucial to achievement of their target.
Johnson has played for Blue Jackets since he joined the team in February this year as a result of a trade with the Lost Angeles Kings in exchange for a conditional first-round draft pick.
He has played out the entire 2011-2012 NHL regular season stretched to 82 games in total. His record consists of 12 goals and 26 points.
In addition, he has participated in a number of junior hockey competitions before turning pro, which includes the world juniors and world under 18 championships.
