2012 Yonex Denmark Open: Chen Long proceeds to Men’s Singles pre quarter-finals
China’s badminton maestro Chen Long started his campaign in perfect manner by overpowering Yun Hu in the opening round of Yonex Denmark Open on Wednesday, October 17, 2012.
However, it was not an easy win for him as he had to wait for one hour and eleven minutes before reading a favourable result of 21-19, 13-21 and 21-18.
World number three player was expected to wrap this showdown in just two games but he put a fluctuated performance which forced him to sweat hard in three sets.
Chen Long locked the honour by claiming the opening and ending match points whereas the opposing shuttler could live his moment of glory only in the second set.
He looked bit off colour in very first game as his lower ranked rival remained close on points table until the last shot was played.
The Chinese ace kick-started his campaign with a couple of consecutive points and finished the first half of the set with a respectable score position of 11.
Later part of the game saw him making some mistakes which allowed his challenger to narrow the gap.
Yun Hu made swift progress and caught his superior competitor at 17-17 but this short campaign was not enough to avoid a 19-21 defeat.
However, he made amends by performing exceptionally well in the very next game. He did not show any sign of bewilderment and displayed elevated craft to bounce back into the contest.
Men’s Singles campaigner of Hong Kong played cautiously in the beginning and established a decent lead before the announcement of break.
He carried this rhythm in later part of the game and strengthened his grip with an indomitable total of 15-7.
Yun Hu did not lose focus and managed to sweep the table with a significant margin of 21-13.
The decider became crucial as both contenders were looking to pocket this final match point to earn a spot in the pre quarter-finals.
They snapped at each other’s heels and remained close until game point situation. Finally, this neck-and-neck tussle ended as Chen Long sealed a splendid victory with 21-18 score.
Now he will be up against a compatriot shuttler Zhengming Wang and a win will take him into the quarter-final of this Premier Super Series.
