2012 Yonex Dutch Open: A semi-final round entry for Judith Meulendijks in Women’s Singles event
Netherlands’ badminton lovers had a reason to celebrate as the native shuttler Judith Meulendijks made her way to the semi-finals of Yonex Dutch Open on October 12, 2012.
She stamped Chloe Magee in a hard fought 49-minute tussle and registered her mark in local badminton arena of Almere by placing final figures of 21-19, 11-21 and 21-15.
Judith Meulendijks, who was underrated earlier in this tournament, performed beyond expectations and locked the honour by clinching the opening and ending match points with distinction.
On the other hand, the sixth seeded Irish campaigner failed to employ all of her brilliance and crashed out of the event.
Though the victorious player put a fluctuated performance in the first set but still she managed to tip the scale in her favour when it mattered.
Judith took some time to read her rival’s strategy and kept trailing behind on points table but she switched on the best and swept the table with a significant margin.
Meanwhile, Chloe Magee relished full benefits of her experience and ruled the first half of the set with 11-8 total.
However, she could not maintain this rhythm after the mid-game break and allowed her challenger to bounce back.
Judith did not miss this opportunity and claimed first match point with scoreboard flashing 21-19 margin.
The second set, unexpectedly, turned into a one-sided affair as Chloe Magee struck hard and brought the contest to right balance with an amazing knock.
This time she controlled the bird masterly and mounted pressure by gathering five consecutive points straight away in the beginning.
She did not show mercy in next couple of rallies and strengthened her grip with 11-6 score before one-minute break.
Later part of the game saw her everywhere on the court as she put an extra effort and finished this crucial set with a ten-point lead in final result of 21-11.
Third set remained interesting until half time as the Dutch shuttler played her heart out and completely dominated the second half of the set.
Judith Meulendijks placed 21-15 total and setup a semi-final clash with a Women's Singles expert Nicole Schaller in the Dutch Open.
