2012 Yonex Dutch Open: Karina Jorgensen crashes out of Women’s Singles quarter-finals
Denmark’s spirited shuttler Karina Jorgensen faced a woeful exit from Yonex Dutch Open after losing to Patty Stolzenbach in the quarter-final round on Friday, October 12, 2012.
However, she did not surrender tamely and put great fighting skills in this 46-minute encounter. She lost first set with a tight margin and then played her heart out in ending two games.
The local campaigner Patty Stolzenbach relished full benefits of home ground as she cruised to victory with a favourable result of 21-18, 20-22 and 21-11.
In first of the match, both contenders challenged each other in all areas of the game to gain an early advantage but neither of them could establish a permanent lead.
Patty, who was an unseeded player in this tournament, unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes and stunned her experienced rival.
She got on right track by prevailing in three consecutive rallies after 1-2 but then few back-to-back mistakes put her expedition to halt.
At this stage, the Danish player switched on the best and placed a respectable margin of 11 before the announcement of break.
However, the story was entirely different in second half as the native shuttler displayed superior finishing skills and bagged first match point with 21-18 score on the board.
There was lot of drama in second set of the match as Karina put all in her possession to avoid a straight-set defeat and enthralled the opposing shuttler with an amazing show of badminton skills.
This time she made her intentions clear straight away in the beginning and established an indomitable lead with 8-4 margin.
She managed to go with same flow in next couple of rallies and finished the first half of the set with an impressive figure of 11-6.
The Danish player struggled a bit in later part of the game which resulted in 19-20 total but she did not lose focus and swept the table with a tight yet decisive score of 22-20.
Third set was expected to be a cliff-hanging contest but it turned into a dead game as the Dutch campaigner played with great precision and sent Karina packing with a striking knock of 21-11.
