2012 a good year for Caribbean Cricket – Part IV

West Indies’s second assignment in 2012 was a tour to England in May-June, on which the men from Caribbean played the Three http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 in a full-fledged series, comprising three Tests, two One Day Internationals and a one-off T20 encounter. Though the Windies
lost all the three legs of the itinerary to the hosts, they showed a lot of fight and determination against the then Test No. 1 side.

The Darren Sammy led Caribbean contingent started the tour with a 2-0 defeat in the three-match Test series defeat.
The first Test played at the historic Lord’s venue was won by the hosts by five wickets. After putting the tourists into bat, England bundled them out for just 243 in their first innings, courtesy Stuart Broad’s seven-wicket haul. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390

the Windies batters fell for single digit scores.

with figures of two for 92.
Chanderpaul and Samuels smashed valiant half centuries – 91 and 86 respectively – to take the Caribbean side to 345 all out in their second innings, setting a target of 191 to win for Strauss and Men. In reply, Alastair Cook’s 79 and an unbeaten 63 coming
off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465 walked away with the Man of the Award accolade for his match haul of 11 wickets.
The hosts won the second Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham by nine wickets to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, this time http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760
skipper Darren Sammy and Jamaican all-rounder Marlon Samuels smashed dazzling centuries to take the tourists to a first innings total of 370 all out. Bresnan took four wickets, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501 all picked up two wickets apiece.
Strauss’ second successive century of the series (141 off 303 balls) gave the Poms a 58 run first innings lead over the tourists. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Rampaul-c2233 picked up three
wickets, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marlon-Nathaniel-Samuels-c74804 all shared two wickets each.
Marlon Samuels’ 160-ball 76 was the only resistance from the West Indies ranks in their second innings as the whole side was rolled over for just 165. England chased down the meagre 108-run target at the cost of skipper Andrew Strauss (45) only, winning
the match by nine wickets.
The third and final Test between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and West Indies, played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, was a rain-ruined draw. The tourists posted 426 all out in their first innings, courtesy Denesh Ramdin’s unbeaten 107 and Tino Best’s record breaking 95. In reply,
only 58 overs of England’s first innings were bowled before heavy showers halted the match proceedings, and the game was never resumed. The downpour in Birmingham washed out three of the total five days of the match.
