Ok i'm not a big believer in all this 2012 stuff, however I read on nasa that a solar maximum is expected in the year 2011 0r 2012. the solar storm can bring all kinds of disturbances to electronic devices. In this day and age wouldn't that be diasterous for everybody to a certain extent?

  1. Solar storms are more common during sunspot maxima, but they can happen at any time.

  2. Well, they happen every 11 years.  The last one was in 2001 and I don't remember anything major happening.  I doubt you should worry.

  3. don't know about you boss man but i'm not walking off the earth in 2012  it's a hokes

  4. yup, just like the one in 2000, remember when your cell phone was dead for a week?  All those TV satellites stopped working?

    no?  because it didnt happen.

its just a solar maximum, most likely nothing special.

  5. yeah it's true... a solar maximum all together with the lovely planet :) nope it won't be calamitous :) i don't think so...

  6. umm . first NASA wil not put up such a thing and you remember that year 2000 where people say that everything will stop working??????

    did it ?

    NO!

but another thing will happen ... global warming .

on year 2030 , we will be short of oil , food and rice.

by 2050 , countries like JAPAN  , Hong Kong will all totally submerge!!!

i am not kidding so take care of our environment!

  7. Solar activity goes in a regular and well-known 11-year cycle, so we've had a maximum as recently as eight years ago in the year 2000, and we survived that one just fine. Designers of satellites and electronic devices know about the solar activity cycle, and design with that in mind.

Scientists don't expect anything out of the ordinary to happen in the year 2012, or specifically on the date December 21, other than the solstice, which happens every year.

None of the "predicted" happenings for 2012 hold up under close scrutiny. "Planet X" and "Nibiru" simply don't exist. The Mayan calendar ends a cycle, but there were no predictions of the end of the world. The Sun doesn't line up with the galactic centre; it's 6 degrees off. No asteroids or comets are actually predicted to hit Earth.

All of this stuff was put together by crackpots in order to promote their books and TV shows, and shamelessly promoted by the History Channel. Don't take any of it seriously!

  8. Solar MAX is a repeating normal cycle -- of the sun--- nothing unusual really.

  9. It'll probably be more annoying than disastrous.

But still not as annoying as all that 2012 garbage.

  10. Hadn't read about that one.  How about if it happened on the first Tuesday of November 2012!  That would be one for the books...no satellite coverage of the elections....Oh, woe is me!

On the other hand...it could boost the sale of newspapers!
