2012 edition of Trans Germany race announced new host towns
The 2012 Trans Germany mountain bike race is scheduled from June 6 to June 9, 2012. The race will start from Sonthofen and the four day tour will pass through Pfronten, Lermoos and Seefeld before finally concluding at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The inclusion of the new host towns will change the stage 3 and stage 4 of the event.
The Race Director, Marc Schneider, mentioned, "Right now we are working on refining the route. But just to let you know, I was in Leutasch, in Seefeld and in Garmisch-Partenkirchen with my bike for three days, and I experienced wonderful landscapes and amazing
views".
He further added that the new routes are very promising as compared to the 2011 edition of the race and that the future event will incorporate many positive changes.
Stage 1 of the race will start from Sonthofen and will conclude at Pfronten while stage 2 will finish at Lermoos after starting from Pfronten.
The cyclists will start the third stage from Lermoos before finally finishing at Seefeld. The final stage of the race will start from Seefeld and the race will conclude at Garmisch, where the winners of the race will be decided.
Helmut Maier, head of Sonthofen department of culture and sports, personally checked the stage 1 from Sonthofen to Pfronten. There will be an additional 160m in the first stage, which was not in the previous edition of the race.
Schneider stated, “We were planning to include Achensee. We always had a fantastic collaboration".
He further added that the route from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Achensee is pretty difficult as compared to the one in the previous year.
Marc stated that the building under construction at Sylvenstein and the influence of traffic have all contributed towards making the race tougher.
He said, “To neutralize the race because of traffic safety is not something we wanted to consider again".
The previous two winners of the race were Christoph Sauser and Pia Sundstedt as they won the race held from June 1-4, 2011.
It was the second consecutive win for Sauser at the Trans Germany title. Race organisers believe that the coming version of the race will bring many exciting changes to the event.
