Can anyone really tell me if we are all gonna die in the year 2012 'cos of the coming of the planet 'nibiru' ?

doomsayers have linked the modern day search for Planet X, or "nibiru" as you put it to the ancient Mayan 2012 Prophecy and the Sumerian mythical planet Nibiru, culminating in bad news for December 21st 2012. However, the astronomical evidence for these links is seriously flawed.

In 1976 a controversial book called "The Twelfth Planet" was written by Zecharia Sitchin. Sitchin had interpreted some ancient Sumerian cuneiform texts (the earliest known form of writing) as a literal translation of the origin of humankind. These 6000 year old texts apparently reveal that an alien race known as the Anunnaki travelled to Earth on a planet called Nibiru. It's a long and involved story, but in a nutshell, the Anunnaki genetically modified primates on Earth to create homo sapiens to be their slaves.

When the Anunnaki left Earth, they let us rule the planet until they return. All this may seem a little fantastical, and perhaps a little too detailed when considering it is a literal translation from 6000 year old texts. Sitchin's work has been disregarded by the scientific community as many of his methods of interpretation are considered imaginative at best. Nevertheless, many people have taken Sitchin's work literally, and believe Nibiru (in its highly eccentric orbit around the Sun) will be returning, possibly as soon as 2012 to cause all sorts of terror and destruction here on Earth. It is important to note here that I am not calling into question any archaeological, spiritual or historic evidence for Nibiru, I am simply pointing out the link between the 2012 Doomsday Planet X theory is based on very dubious astronomical "discoveries"

No one can REALLY tell you if we're going to die in 2012 as no one can see the future.  With regards to the Mayan calendar, it measured phases of the Earth.  On Dec 21st, 2012 it's just an end of another phase on Earth.

I don't understand why people stress out about this.  If the world's going to end, we can't stop it so no need to worry about it.  Though, I really doubt the world is going to end.  There may be drastic changes, though you can see that happening anyways with all the earthquakes, tsunami's, glaciers, etc., today.

Don't worry, just go on living your life. :)

2012 is just the revealing of the 'antichrist' or the 'man of lawlessness' at the middle of what Jews and Christians call the 7 year Tribulation. Many pagan cultures (Sumerians, Babylonians, Cherokee, Hopi, Chinese I-Ching {confirmed by T.McKenna}, Mayans, Egyptians, Celts, Satanists, etc...) celebrate this evil event called "the abomination that causes desolation". When will Yeshua Ha'Mashiach (Jesus) come? Only God Himself knows, but soon. If you believe or not, that is up to you. Either way it still comes.

Mayans predicted 2012.  Their calendar has been dead on since ancient times and it has an expiration date that year.  Live it up, we only have 4 more years.  Don't know if it will be the end, although expect major changes.  Some predict that time travel will become utilized which will s***w up time as we know it now.

According to the 2012ers it will be the end of the world because

4. there will be a pole shift

5. there will be a planetary alignment

I would take those doomsayers more serious if they

- had a better track record (just how many times has the world ended already?)

It will not even be the end of "end-of-the-world" predictions.

We already know that 'Nibiru' was created by a translator with a vivid imagination.  According to him, it is coming back in 2085 or after (not before).  Even he is fed up to see how "his" imaginary planet was hijacked by hoaxers (first in 2003) and forced to participate in the Big 2012 Hoax Off.

The website religioustolerance.org lists around 100 predictions of the end of the world that turned out to be  wrong, and these are just a sample of the better known ones.  It also lists 9 dates over the next two years and 23 more between 2010 and 2100.  Dont expect any of them to be right.

The mythical planet Nibiru is based on the work of Zecheria Sitchin (see Wikipedia) but doesn't seem to be supported by any real data, so I wouldn't worry about it.

it's not whether or not you believe this is a load of tripe. The Mayans never wrote that all of civilization or human kind was going to 'die' on 2012...

tell me, if you were to create a calender, right here, right now, how far would you make it go? would you work on it until the day you die? then what? the day you die and the day your calender ends on, is that all of man kinds death date?

I'm going to do a little more research on the 'nibiru' thing, though. sounds like it could be mildly amusing.
