2012??????????

somebody told me the world was going to ewnd in 2012. ahh this is scary. is it true>? she said that the mayan callendar predicted it and they also predicted something to happen on 9/11 and something did. i dont think i believe in it but i wanna know r sure. i dont think anyone can predict when the world will end.. ? plus they thought the world was gonna end in 6/6/06 and in 2000 so yeah but opionions and facts pleasE??

Nope, the mayans are wrong. Think of all the other things they were wrong about: They believed that natural disasters such as earthquakes were the fury of the gods, but guess what, there's science behind earthquakes, they don't just happen whenever. I trust science more than old myths.

It is fact that on December 21, 2012, the Meso-American Long Count arrives at the end of a Long Count and begins a new one. It is not the end of the world. Instead, this is comparable to the situation where our own modern types of computer calendars ran out of dates on December 31, 1999. All of our computers were supposed to malfunction and die, the stock market would crash, power plants would blow up, all chaos would let loose, and Armegeddon was supposed to take place as a result. But ... we stuck a 2 instead of the 1 and reset the nines to zeros and we invented the year 2000.

Mayan astronomers/astrologers did write about astronomical events which are to happen after the year we call 2012. They had a fairly good handle on writing ephemeris data. They give us the dates using the Long Count calendar.

They didn't expect the entire world to actually end, so neither should we.

As someone else stated, there is also a concern about the polar shift. But as she pointed out, it is speculation of misinterpreted fact. The polar shift is thought to be happening all of the time. The most recent scientific survey was completed in May of 2001, and there was determined an updated position for the North magnetic pole and it was established that it is moving about 40 km per year. Although that is fast by geological standards, reversals are by no means quick on the human time scale. They take approximately 5,000 years.

I think life as we know it could end but that could mean a massive awakening and changes in the way we live our everyday lives. We may live globally instead of as individuals. Every calendar has to end. Maybe no one found Mayan Calendar Issue Two yet and it goes on for thousands of years. Could mean the Mayan bloodline is so thin its gone. So much interpetation. Have you read Nostradus' stuff? Very weird.

my sister told me the same thing and it turns out that 2012 is when the mayan calendar ends so it just means they have to make a new calander people just take it to drastic measures by saying that when the calendar ends we end

According to Mayans, they said 21 dec 2012 will be the end of times or change of era, they have predictions beyond that date too, as far as 2052. however the time as defined by mayans has not been explained. this date relates to many other cultures and all predict change of some sort, Don't worry before it comes it is just a date and who knows the change is good for us...........

I was cynical about this but that d**n Discovery Channel show said that a couple of other people were saying that the world will end at 2012 so that swayed me a bit. Personally, I don't think the world is gonna end - just a great change will come. But they're all speculations and we'll know if they're right all at the same time. For now, do what you do and don't worry about it.

my crazy cousin keeps talking about that too! LOL! I think she is so funny though. she always brings it up and then we joke about it and have a good laugh.

it is said that all of the planets in our solar system will align with the earth and the moon and the sun. who knows what will really happen. some people think this will be the end of our planet or our entire solar system in general due to the huge pulls from the gravity of each planet being aligned. no one really knows for sure.

My cousin and i said, "yeah, what if we all got super powers from this day instead of the world ending, what would you want to have?" we try to be optimistic, because worry does no good and nothing is set in stone. there is nothing we could do anyways if it were to end, we can not move planets.

I have only heard about this through my cousin and have not read anything about it. but she says, if the planets are all aligned they might pull the sun into our atmosphere or knock it off course changing our seasons. or, that the planets being so close together that they might have some kind of nuclear or atmospheric reprocussions. or that the planets gravity might otherwise alter the earth in some way, such as the tides destroying everything and the imbalances etc. armageddon yadda yadda, as foretold in the bible. I don't believe it and neither does my fiance. she doesn't believe it at heart either but is very interested in the subject.

my fiance is native american. he believes HUMANS are the only thing that will bring the destruction and death of the planet earth. the way we use the lands and abuse it and destroy it and take it for granted will be our own downfall in years to come. BUT, he believes it will not happen in our lifetime and it will be future generations who will suffer, a long time from now.

me personally: i believe that it will be an end, as predicted. just like 9/11 was predicted by nostradamus to be an end and a sign of the final end to come. just like other turning points in the history of the world like WW2 was predicted, once again by nostradamus to be an end of our world. what it means to be an end of 'the world' is that it is an end to a certain reality that we live in, not the end of earth. i believe earth isn't going anywhere, it just changes and moves like energy. energy can not be created or destroyed, only misplaced or 'lost' beyond our reaches. the 'end of the world' means to me great changes on our planet and the begining of some new way of life. whether it be more more new technology or the absence of it, whether it means changes in the seasons and temperatures or changes in the depths of the oceans. it is all the same to me. it is all hardship, it is all the end, it is all change, and it is all a new begining.

the balance of life and death can never be broken, it can only be altered or set off. earth is the same way, constant and forever. I believe even if the the sun itself were to collide with us, something would survive, or something would regrow and a new world would begin. balance of creation and recreation at work.....

IN MY OPINION: i think that 'the end of the world' has been predicted many times in history.

Some scientists think the earth's poles will reverse during that year. No one really knows for sure. But the sky could fall, a meteorite could hit us, aliens might come here and exterminate us, the ice caps might melt, the Yetis will arise in packs and come and get us.....

Don't worry. This too will pass.

it is strange that they thought the world would end in 6/6/06, but then i heard it was supposed to end in 12/12/12.  

6 doubled who knows, i was freaking out when i heard it would end in 2012, im still scared of how it will end, zombies! huge explosion!
