2012 season: Paula Creamer set to get on victory track again
Can Paula Creamer bounce back in the current season? The question has been looming large ever since the American star got off the winning track.
With fans keeping a close eye on her, Creamer has finally resumed her career on a promising note.
She was seen at Honda LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Thailand proving her worth once again.
She finished tied for 49th at the Siam Country Club — way better than what she had expected. Creamer might have made some big plans, but keeping in mind how she stayed off the course for weeks, the performance was good enough to at least give her some confidence.
No matter how messed up she was feeling due a wining drought, Creamer carded a decent score, highlighting she still has what it takes to rebound in the game.
Creamer, who had been performing better a couple of months back, had to face a string of disappointments when she suffered a nagging injury. The injury became so troubling that she had to spend days off the course.
The last season was awash with setbacks, as Creamer struggled most of the year trying to regain her lost momentum. She played a number of events but came off worse than her fans had anticipated.
Even worse, she saw her putting skills go from bad to worse. She appeared to be in trouble when her swing failed to produce good results on the course.
Widely known as ‘Pink Panther’ in golf world, Creamer’s career has probably been the most dramatic one, as she has seen her world ranking fluctuate in the last 5 years.
For instance, in 2006, the American prodigy could not even grab a single win. The grim performance took a serious toll on her world ranking.
However, nothing has been as debilitating for her career as her injuries. She was hit by wrist and foot injuries. She, however, kept playing but did nothing to surprise her fans.
Although Creamer knew she was faltering, analysts still were not willing to write her off as an incompetent player.
She proved her mettle in 2007, winning 2 LPGA titles. One certain trait that Creamer can be proud of is that she knows how to bounce back against all odds.
Creamer amazed everyone on and off the course in the 2010 season. She carved out an impressive victory in the US Open at Oakmont.
What caught the spectators by utter surprise was that she was battling her injuries, yet she did what most of the observers had not thought of.
Clinching a 4-stroke triumph in one of the most prestigious events on the LPGA Tour reflects that Creamer is resilient.
Even she was not sure how she would fare against golf titans because she had already decided her injury was too big to handle.
Fans who were not willing to pin hopes on her, applauded her for her unpredictable performance.
We still remember how she had reacted after winning her first major title. She was aware of the same old question that always cropped up every time she set foot on the course: No major?
Filled with confidence, Creamer spoke to the media following her victory at Oakmont.
"That question always lurked: ‘How come you never won a major?’ Now we never have to get asked that question again. It's kind of a big relief off my shoulders," she had said.
Creamer currently ranks 5th in the world rankings and is hopeful of taking a further jump. With a number of prestigious events pencilled in for the 2012 season, Creamer is set to get on the winning track once again.
