2012 season: Brittany Lang makes headway
American Brittany Lang, who won the 2012 edition of Manulife Financial LPGA Classic in June, displayed a better performance at the season-ending CME Group Titleholders 2012.
Lang was not one of the strongest contenders at the four-day LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) battle, but she troubled other contenders in the second and third round.
Lang shot an overall 284 to finish tied for the 18th position along with three other contenders, but she came close to grabbing a spot inside the top 10 after she fired a 69 in
the second round.
Having got off to a decent start that saw her record a 71 in the opening round on Thursday at The TwinEagles Club, Florida, Lang was sure that she would be able to do her best this time, and
she also unveiled her best putting skills.
The second round went well, giving her hope that she could maintain her momentum in the final two rounds as well. The American star impressed the local spectators once again after she posted
a 69 in the third round.
Fired up, Lang decided to focus more on her short game than what she did on the fairways. With calm winds sweeping through the course all day, Lang made the most of the conditions on the greens.
However, shooting a 75 in the fourth round dampened her spirits as she was standing tied for the 8th position when she started the round on Sunday.
After a woeful performance on the concluding day, Lang slipped to tie for the 18th position.
South Korean Na Yeon Choi impressed her fans once again as she won the title after shooting a 274. Choi displayed a fiery performance in all four rounds, but she was particularly impressive
in the first round as she carded a 67.
Choi failed to grab the top spot in the opening round, but she boosted her position from the third round. The third round saw her post a 69, which helped her rise to the top.
“I think I had extra pressure after the major tournament because a lot of people said you're a major champion, you should win, or a lot of people expect better result,” the winner said at
the end of the third round.
