I am confused about it. I've heard about the theory that the 'world will end' in december 2012 but is that true? Is there real evidence that it will? If the world really WOULD end in 2012, how?

Just because Maiyans(spelling?) didn't go up to 2012 in their predicted calendar, does that really mean the world will end? That all the humans will die? What if, you know, suposevly, the Mayans(spelling?) simply didn't have enough time and didn't want to waste THEIR life predicting ours?

Please answer. With detail and thought. I would love to have a conversation with someone who knows this stuff. Thank you.

  1. In 1974 there was a bestselling book published called "the Jupiter Effect".  It indicated that the planets mercury, venus, earth, mars, saturn, and jupiter would all align on one side of the sun in 1982, within 90 degrees of each other. This was true, it really happened.

The book predicted that the gravitational force of the planets would devestate the earth, slowing down its rotation, causeing sun flares that would cause havok on our atmosphere, earthquakes like we have never seen. Volcanos would erupt all over the world. Our electical devices would be unusable.

The devastating effects that actually occured were high tides almost .04mm higher than normal. No increased earthquakes, no increased vocanic activity.

However, many people were anticipating the end of the world, because the book made it all sound so scientifically sound. As you can see, the world is still here.

You probably remember 2000 when people thought all computers would crash and we would be catapulted into the world of Mad Max because the financial markets would crash, no electronics would work, and everyone would resort to a more primitive way of life.

My point is, in 2013 are you going to be laughing about the people who believed the world would end or are you going to be one of the people being laughed at? That is what you have to ask yourself.

  2. that is stupid the world will not end in2012 this is the most stupidest question i have erver heard in my life you should go to school and learn some stuf you lamo

  3. it's the Y2K story continued with a new set of players.  Human fear of the unknown (in this case the future) causes some people to assume the worst.  Nuclear power plants didn't all explode at midnight on Dec31 1999, and nothing particularly interesting will happen on Dec 22, 2012.  Except for mabye a good last-minute sale at walmart or something similar.

  4. 12/21/2012 is the end of the Mayan calandar.

July 1999 was the end of the Aztec calendar, and the world didn't end.

Christians predicted the world would end in 1000 CE.

Lots of people for at least the last 1000 years have predicted the world would end. That does not mean it is going to.

If you look into the Mayan calendar you will see that the calendar goes in very long cycles.

All December 21st, 2012 is;; is when our solar system crosses the plane of the milky way galaxy and begins another cycle.

They continued their calendar to the end of the current cycle and did not show the next cycle because they knew no one alive at that time would be around for the changing of the cycle.

  5. I did studied the Mayans last year. Now, I don't want to sound rude or anything, but they worshiped corn. The though men were made of wood, then the god of corn knocked them out with a flood. The same for rock, and straw/hay. Then, the fourth try, when he made man of corn, he was glad because corn could talk back to this god....With that, I really don't understand that 2012 is our ending date. Worshiping corn is just plain weird. Maby it was their ending date? Did they know there were other people? Or possibly, Iran is going to launch some kind of missile and it missed us and ends up where there big temple was. But, each year, some nut case says the world is going to end. I remember all those rumors about 2000 and 2004 and 2006. You shouldn't believe it. In 2029, I believe, there is a meteor predicted to to have a 1 in 60 chance of hitting earth. It's the size of Texas. Oh, by the way, don't fear death. It's going to come whether you like it or not. None of us are getting out of here alive.

Another thing to back myself up is the Aztecs. They said the world ends in 1999. Did you laugh then? If I were them, I would predict the world ends in 2666 or something weird like that.

  6. Both the Mayan and Aztec calendars were based upon the "ages of man" or eras which lasted approximately 52 years each. The calendars have been interpreted to end within about a year of each other between 2011 and 2012 - a date which coincides with some interpretations of the Chinese calendar in the I-Ching.

When these calendars end, some people believe that the world will end. The Mayans actually believed that a global catastrophe would occur, but that man would survive to become a more spirtual being. The Aztecs believed that men have been destroyed many times in the earths past, but this will be the final destruction of man.

Do I believe in these things? I have great respect for the Mayan civilization and the Aztec accomplishments, but I do not personally believe that they were able to predict the future with such accuracy. But, am I going to party in December of 2011 and 2012? You bet your butt I will!

  7. The Mayan calender didn't END in 2012, it was COUNTING DOWN to 2012. The mayans believed that there have already been 4 or five "ages" on this earth. at the end of the last age, strange things happened that dramatically changed the way mankind lived. The date December 22, 2012 is when the next age ends, and mankind will once again be reminded how to live on this earth. There's a good book for you out there. It's called "The Mayan Prophecies" by Adrian G. Gilbert & Maurice M. Cotterell.

If you cannot find the book, my copy is collecting dust. You can always email me for a trade or to buy it off me if you want, I read it 4 times already, I'm done.

  8. I don't know all the details but what I've seen on the subject the Mayan calender ending is because of technology taking over the world.  I don't put much stock in it.  but here is an interesting site.

  9. The History Channel did a great special on 2012, the cited the Mayan Calendar, the I-Ching, several prophets, and a computer called the Webbot as claiming 2012 as either the end of the world, or the end of the world as we know it.  Perhaps 2012 signals some great advancement in human aging or a shift in perspective from technology to the spiritual.  I support the idea about an advancement in aging that increases the human life span so much it changes our priorities.  I'm also very curious about the Webbot, which is said to have predicted lots of things from 9/11 to Cheney's shooting his friend.

  10. Hey I saw the thing on TV ..but i also saw the Davinci code and Independence Day and a Volcano coming out of the tar pit in La...Over time there have been people who were convinced that tomorrow was the end of it all pushing a day or reckoning for us all so to speak..Well we all will have our chance but if mine is on 2012 then so be it .. I'm going to make the best of what i have just like i was going to live to be 150years old and still play golf...So i guess if one must spent their life worrying about 2012 let get past 2008 presidential elections first we may not have to wait that long....Good luck and as Spock would say "Live long and Prosper" from the E...

  11. Theres no evidence the world will end, but right now the world is rolling down a slope into a vat of global nuclear meltdown. Global warming MIGHT lead to the destruction of the Earth in 2012 if there is no change. IF the world is destroyed then 2 things can happen. A, If God is dead then nothing happens after the world is destroyed. B, If God is alive then he will create another world and it will repeat us, leading to the a chain that will  never end until the end of time itself.

  12. The 2012 thing is just another myth invented by the pathological Chicken Littles to keep themselves occupied.  I don't think that anyone actually believes it.  It's more media hype than anything.

  13. Why didn't anything occur at the end of the millenium, 2000 A.D.?

  14. no!! no..no...no!  its 2027 and a rather large asteroid will be the culprit.    its over a mile wide so none of us will make it.. Have fun;)

  15. Please don't call it a theory.  It's an insult to the word, "theory."

There is no evidence that anything like this will happen.  It's a mythological story that people have misinterpreted just to create hype.  As with all of the end-of-the-world stories that have come up from various mythologies, this one will come and go and will soon be forgotten.  Unfortunately, some people will take advantage of, and profit from, other peoples' fear and ignorance about this non-event.  Please don't let yourself become either one of these people.

  16. At the winter solstice of the Northern Hemisphere in December 2012, the sun will be conjunct earth's elliptical orbit and the galactic equator of the milky way. This is an event that occured last 25,920 years ago.

The Mayan calendar divided this 25,920 years into 5 eras of 5184 years and recognised that each of these eras is significant on earth. We know that the beginning of the bronze age and the development of major civilisations in Egypt, China, Mesoamerica and India began about 5184 years ago.

The conjunction of the sun in the centre of the milky way at this time is believed to be a doorway or a keyhole perhaps into different realms or state's of being.

The reason this group of 5 eras of 5184 years exists is because the earth is on a slight rotational wobble which leads to a phenomena called the precession of the equinoxes. This means that the constellations seem to shift in the heavens by a degree every 72 years. Thus the 25,000 year cycle is the return back to the position in the heavens that we had that many years ago. (72 years x 360 degrees in an orbit).

What does it mean for us living in 2012?

It may simply mean that we start another 25,920 year cycle. It may mean that we enter another new age, like the one that began with the start of the Bronze Age.

Nobody really knows what it means because we only seem to understand these things in hindsight.

My personal opinion is that we are facing a major leap in man's evolution. As humans have developed and civilisations expanded, man's brain has developed new capacities. The Bronze Age was a big example of this. It was at this time that man went from tribal to urban living and from stone implements to metal.

How will this happen? We just have to wait, watch and see.

  17. if you read Revelation, you will find the answer. there is seven years after the Rapture until the world will end. since the Rapture hasn't happened and it is 2007, the only thing i can think of is that the Rapture is predicted to happen in 2012, who knows. it could have no significance to the end of the world and just be the year 2012, or it couldn't. guess we just have to wait!
