2013 Dutch Junior International: Sitthikom Thammasin beats Kalle Koljonen in semi-final round
Thailand’s talented male shuttler Sitthikom Thammasin served notice of his potential in the semi-final round of Yonex Dutch Junior International and qualified for the title match on March 3, 2013.
This Men’s Singles semi-final tussle saw him swinging arms against Kalle Koljonen of Finland and he took just 39 minutes to lock the honour.
Sitthikom raised his chances of success by winning the opening game and then sealed a straight-set victory with an impressive result of 21-18 and 21-17.
On the other hand, the Finnish campaigner had to face a woeful exit despite of showing commendable fighting spirit.
In the opening game, both contenders stood toe-to-toe in the establishing rallies and did not allow each other to gain an early advantage. They displayed splendid badminton craft on the court and kept the audience glued to their chairs.
However, Kalle made some fatal mistakes just before the interval and allowed his competitor to pile up a decent total.
The Thai shuttler did not squander this opportunity and established a strong grip over game with couple of productive rallies. He registered a mountainous figure of 11 and started second half of the set with a psychological edge.
Though, Kalle showed some spark after the mid-game break and prevailed in couple of consecutive rallies but this fluctuated performance was not enough to tip the scale in his favour.
Meanwhile, Sitthikom bagged many valuable points in a row and placed a winning score of 21-18.
The following game was also played in similar manner as the Finnish player raised his chances of success but then frittered away his efforts.
On the other hand, the Thai shuttler showed superior finishing skills and wrapped this segment of the showdown in a favourable manner.
In the beginning, Sitthikom was bit cautious but then couple of productive strokes helped him to gain confidence. He played flawless badminton when it was needed and established an unassailable lead.
After the mid-game break, he ruled the court in couple of successive rallies and added many points in his total.
In the end, Kalle again launched an intensive attack and brought life back to the contest. Finally, this nerve-racking tussle ended when Sitthikom registered a decisive figure of 21-17.
