2013 India Open: Saili Rane paves path to second stage of qualifying round
Women’s Singles expert Saili Rane relished full benefits of home ground and powered her way to second stage of qualifying round in Yonex Sunrise India Open on Tuesday, April 23, 2013.
In her second encounter of qualifying round, the young but talented Indian campaigner locked horns with Nisha Karamchand and this hard fought tussle remained in full swing for 41 minutes.
Though, Saili lost first set with 19-21 margin but she managed to end the ending two games with favourable figures of 21-12 and 21-10.
On the other hand, the opposing shuttler failed to capitalise her first set win and crashed out of this Super Series.
Nisha raised her chances of success by sweeping the table in the opening game with an impressive total. She unleashed a series of productive strokes and piled up a decent margin without any delay.
The lower ranked but talented Indian shuttler did not show any sign of confusion and played flawless badminton.
At first, she mounted pressure by finishing first half of the set with a respectable score and then magnified the impact with an unassailable lead in third quarter of the set.
Though, Nisha blundered in the final moments and allowed her rival to proceed on the points table but she managed to register a winning total of 21-19.
However, it proved her last success in this tournament as Saili turned her plans of a straight-set win into dust.
This time Saili did not repeat her previous mistakes and confounded her competitor with a strong backlash. She laid foundation of her dominance immediately in the establishing rallies and maintained that upper hand all the way to game point situation.
Saili did not lose grip at any stage of the game and toppled her rival with a significant lead in final margin of 21-12.
Third set was expected to be a nerve-racking tussle but Saili ruled the court from very first stroke till the last one.
She dominated Nisha in all departments of game and sealed her victory with an overwhelming score of 21-10.
Now she is all set to take on Jacqueline Rose Kunnath to ensure her presence in the main round of India Open.
