2013 Malaysia GP Gold: P. V. Sindhu beats Juan Gu in final round of Women’s Singles event
Women’s Singles title of Yonex Sunrise Malaysia Grand Prix Gold belonged to P. V. Sindhu of India as she overpowered Juan Gu in final round on Saturday, May 4, 2013.
This grand finale remained in full swing for one hour and eleven minutes as both contenders challenged each other in all areas of the game while piling up final figures of 21-17, 17-21 and 21-19.
The talented Indian campaigner prevailed in the opening and ending segments of the showdown whereas the opposing player could rise only in the second set.
Sindhu, who had a fantastic run in the preliminary rounds, employed her valuable experience in the game and established a decent lead in no time.
She relished full benefits of this early advantage and strengthened her grip in next couple of rallies.
The Singaporean shuttler was not prepared for such an intensive attack as she remained grounded in first half of the set.
Juan Gu showed some spark in third quarter of the set but her below par performance was not enough to tip the scale in her favour. She lost this crucial game with 17-21 score on the board.
However, next game brought something for her as she managed to rise from the dust and brought life back into the contest.
This time she did not repeat previous mistakes and played flawless badminton in the establishing rallies.
She raised her chances of success by ruling the court in some consecutive rallies and then doubled the impact by registering a respectable total of 11.
After the mid-game break, Juan Gu injected more intensity in her attack and finished this vital set with a favourable score position of 21-17.
The decider proved a real test of their mental and physical fitness as they remained equal on the points table until the game point situation.
Initially, the Singaporean player had an upper hand but then P.V. Sindhu showed her class and reinstated her dominance.
The Indian campaigner did not lose focus in the pressure situation and registered a winning margin of 21-19.
With this development, she earned the right to be on the top of victory stand in 2013 Malaysia GP Gold.
