Various events carry different points and usually majors carry an advantage on the points table.
Points are awarded for the positions in which a player finishes the event. Usually, a top-20 finish is considered for this purpose. The requirements for both the teams vary but many experts have commented that selection criteria for the US team are stricter

The second category is made up of the two players who are the leading the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. This is again a very competitive category and only the best gains access to the Solheim Cup based on this criterion.
The final category is the Captain’s Pick. The captain of the team names two players that she thinks are the upcoming golfers on the US side.
For the European team, the team is also divided into three sections but the number of players in each category differs from the US system.
The first category consists of the qualifiers who have accumulated the most points. This category has four players. The points start accumulating from the Lacoste Ladies Open de France.
The next category comprises of the players who top the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. The top four European players on this list make up the second part of the team.
The final part is the Captain’s Pick. The captain names four players who she thinks are the top-of-the-lot players.
The two captains will announce their picks and the final list of players of their respective teams at the end of the Women’s British Open. This is a very exciting moment for the players on both the continents. Usually the most important part of the announcement
is the Captain’s Pick.
