2013 Sudirman Cup: Ozturk Ramazan beats Niyazov Artur in Men’s Singles encounter – Badminton news
Turkey’s inexperienced but talented shuttler Ozturk Ramazan ruled the court in a Men’s Singles tie of Sudirman Cup and defeated Niyazov Artur on Friday, May 24, 2013.
This 22-minute showdown kept him in the arena for just two sets as he overpowered the opposing shuttler with a favourable result of 21-19 and 21-18.
The Turkish player looked bit sluggish in the beginning but he gained the right momentum after establishing rallies of first set. This flow helped him to hit the mark in both segments of the match.
On the other hand, the Kazakhstani shuttler took off in perfect manner but the lack of good finishing skills brought him down in both sets.
Ozturk, who was an underrated player earlier in this event, registered his presence with a staggering knock in the first set. Although he took some time to read his rival’s game, yet he managed to rise on his toes.
His passive approach led him to a significant deficit on points table but then few back-to-back productive rallies helped him to establish a strong grip over the game. He improvised his game plan and confounded his competitor with a flurry of well-placed
strokes.
He maintained a respectable lead in third quarter of the set so few consecutive mistakes did not weaken his grip. He placed a winning total of 21-19 and marched into second set with a psychological edge.
However, it was not a smooth road to victory for him as Niyazov showed strong character and made him sweat hard in the following game.
The Kazakhstani player showed his intentions straight away in the beginning as he played aggressively and pocketed many points in a row. It was felt that Niyazov will win this set in a commendable manner and setup the decider.
However, the story changed just before the announcement of one-minute break as the Turkish campaigner switched on the best in himself and tipped the scale in his favour.
During third quarter of the set, Ozturk Ramazan looked at top of his game as he claimed many consecutive points and sealed his straight-set victory with scoreboard flashing 21-18 margin.
