2013 Sudirman Cup: Sayaka Takahashi remains undefeated in group stage – Badminton news
Women’s Singles expert Sayaka Takahashi of Japan played impeccable badminton in the group stage of Sudirman Cup and played a vital role in her country’s win over Denmark on May 21, 2013.
She locked horns with Line Kjaersfeldt in this Group D match and their meeting prolonged to 32 minutes before ending with final figures of 21-18 and 21-15.
The young Japanese player looked at her best as she did not give her rival even a single chance to proceed in the points table. On other hand, Line failed to serve the notice of her potential and lost an important match point.
The battle heated up when Sayaka Takahashi unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes and confined her rival to the rear court. She employed unusual tactics and bagged many valuable points with well placed smashes and masterly crafted drop net shots.
The Danish lady remained busy just in returning her competitor’s power packed strokes and this passive approach hit her hard in latter part of the game. Initially, Line Kjaersfeldt tried to challenge her opponent but she failed to prove herself superior
technically and tactically.
Meanwhile, Sayaka Takahashi kept on playing flawless badminton and strengthened her grip on the game. At first, she mounted pressure by piling up an unassailable lead in first half and then doubled the impact with few back-to-back productive rallies in third
quarter of the set.
The Japanese shuttler registered a winning margin of 21-18 and moved to the second set with a psychological edge. She made best out of this advantage in the next game and wrapped this showdown in just two games.
Sayaka laid foundation of her supremacy immediately in the beginning and enjoyed an upper hand all the way to the game point situation.
She finished first half of the set with a favourable figure of 11 and then relished full benefits of this lead in third quarter of the set. She maintained a significant difference of six points and won this game with a respectable margin of 21-15.
Her victory proved a real booster for other team members and Japan won this match with 3-2 margin.
