2018 World Cup bid: FIFA boss Sepp Blatter rejects England’s accusations
The seventy three years old FIFA boss Sepp Blatter has condemned the reaction of England after losing the bid for World Cup 2018 to Russia. Moreover, the Swiss has also refused the accusations of corruption in FIFA.
England got only two votes out of twenty two in its struggle for hosting the World Cup 2018. After the decision to select Russia, many sports critics and media persons criticized the work of FIFA’s governing body regarding the matter. Some rumours about
corruption in FIFA also filled the air.
In a recent interview, the President of FIFA Sepp Blatter expressed his thoughts about the matter bluntly. Blatter said that he was not at all expecting such a disappointing reaction from the England team and English media after they lost the bid to Russia.
Blatter added that he is disappointed with the way the English team reacted and complained.
The English team's bid was considered the strongest but after losing, the English reacted pretty harshly and English media highly criticised the decision of FIFA.
Sepp Blatter tagged the English team as “bad losers” and said that some of them are reacting overly and they are the real bad losers of the game, not showing the right sportsman spirit.
Blatter said that England should accept the defeat rather than criticise it. He continued and said that the decision cannot be revised and it was a clear decision by the football governing body, which was thoroughly based on votes and nothing more.
The comments of acting chairman of FA, Roger Burden further added fuel to the matter. Roger Burden said that he could no longer trust the FIFA officials as the decision of selecting Russia is a proof of corruption within FIFA. British Prime Minister David
Cameron also accused FIFA of breaking promises and said that he was not happy with the matter.
Blatter rejected all the rumours and accusations, saying that the system of governance is running smoothly in FIFA and there is no dishonesty there. He also tagged such rumours and speculations as non-sense.
Blatter also expressed his views about the matter of bribery in the FIFA organization and said that FIFA is monetarily clean. He added that the management will look into the issues and will try its level best to improve the image of FIFA in the world of
sports.
