  1. The 22-250 is the best of the 3 you listed.... And that's only because it has a solid reputation and is popular....

The .204 Ruger is a "johnny come lately" cartridge.... It is affected by wind too much and not every manufacturer makes a rifle in it....

The 220 swift is a decent cartridge but it is obsolete.... I cant think of any rifle manufacturer that makes a rifle chambered in .220 Swift anymore.....

The best choice would be a .223.... It cheap, most gun manufacturers make a rifle chambered in it and its available on every sport shop shelf.....

  2. 220 swift is a pretty cool gun but not my favorite. The 22-250. is an excellent calibre for varmint for short and extremely long range shots. The 204. is an under rated gun, it is just as good as any other varmint load if not better.

My favorite would be either the 22-250. or the 204. ruger.

  3. .223 Rem. it's so affordable.  I can shoot all day long, every weekend if I want to.

  4. I personally have a 257 roberts that I built on a large ring mauser action some 27 years ago it is scoped with a 4-12 redfeild with fine crosshairs and I load a hornady 60 grain flat nose with 44 grains of 4064 I have no problem with 400 yard shots

  5. Always have and always will love my .22-250

  6. I've shot all three calibers mentioned and like them all. But my pick of the three is the .22-250. As it is it the first caliber I've hunted coyotes with. I used a friends Winchester Model 70 22-250 for months, until I was able to buy my own varmint rifle. What I ended up buying was a Savage Model 12FLV 22-250. Some have called me crazy, but I call it a necessity... To invest about $1,000 into the rifle. So far, I have added a Leupold Rifleman 3-9x40mm scope (Had a Nikon Prostaff, loaned to me by cousin...Then a POS Centerpoint scope on it.) I have a Harris Bi pod and a real comfortable sling on the rifle. Other things I'd like to get for the rifle are... Bells&Carlsons stock and upgrade the Leupold scope to a higher end Leupold scope.

  7. I love my .22-250 and my .223 but my next one will be the .204.

  8. what about the lovely 222?

  9. The Ruger may be a bit more than is needed for varmint hunting.  The 22-250 even though small in caliber is quite efficient for hunting varmint and other pesky critters.
