What is in there now is this gross blue mesh thing with a metal frame. It is the washable ones. I have allergies and need a real filter with allergen eliminators, etc. When I measured the metal frame, I got 21.5x16.5...At Home Depot/Lowes, etc. this doesn't exist. HELP?!

  1. Yes, I think that this one was meant to be washable also. BUT, if it's gross, Home Depot carries a cut to fit blue filter material (under $10) that is stiff enough to support itself under the suction, is washable, and every bit as good (or better than) the throw-outs. Use your old frame and cut one of those to fit it. That should hold you for a few years.

  2. go to www.filtersnow.com you can order the exact size you need. it sounds like you have a Carrier air handler just like mine.

  3. Try www.grainger.com

I have been able to get all kinds of weird filters sizes for Commercial units at this place. Pretty cheap too.

Home Depot only carries the common sizes.

  4. A HVAC sheetmetal company can change your filter tray for really cheap probably an hour of labor and $10 in parts

  5. you should call he manufacture they usually have a number somewhere on the filter or the machine itself

  6. The metal frame makes me think that you may have a washable filter.  Take it outside and try washing it out with the hose.  Let it dry before you put it back in.
