21-year-old Canadian youngster Evander Kane signs for Dinamo Minsk of Kontinental Hockey League
Evander Kane, a professional ice hockey player from Canada becomes first Canadian to sign for any team in Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), primarily Russia’s hockey league.
The Vancouver, British Columbia born player was originally selected 4th overall in the first round of the 2009 NHL (National Hockey League) Draft by Atlanta Thrashers (who later turned into Winnipeg Jets) and became first Vancouver born player
to be selected so high in the draft, since 1993. He had signed a new contract with Winnipeg Jets 2 weeks back but the NHL lockout made him sign for a European team.
The Winnipeg Jets team, who play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference, signed the left winger for 6 years in a $31.5 million deal on 15th September. This means he would have been paid $5,250,000 every year, which is much more than
$3,100,000 he was paid in the last contract.
The 21-year-old forward has his new team based in Minsk, Belarus and they play in the Tarasov Division of the KHL. He would be moving to Belarus soon to join his new team and hoping to show the same performance there as he did in NHL.
There would be some assistance for Kane at the new place where he is going as there already are some Canadian players who would surely help him in getting adjusted to the place and showing all the places. Canadian players at the Dinamo Minsk team are Daniel
Corso, Kevin Lalande, Charles Linglet, Cory Murphy and Geoff Platt.
Corso, Platt and Linglet are forwards are also forwards like Kane so it would also provide some assistance for him while he would be playing.
The 6-foot-2, 195 pounder would also be looking to give some lift to his new team who have not been very successful in the new season as they have played 9 games, winning only three of them.
Kane, on the other hand would be also looking to improve his personal performance as he has not been to show something which was expected from him when he got selected 3 years back. In 213 NHL games, he has been able to score just 63 goals, 63 assists and
126 total points.
