21 yr old Male traveling alone in Europe - good idea? Tips?

I’ve got a plan next summer (May 09) to travel around Europe alone. I need some detailed advice, because I’ve never done this before, but heard it’s a fantastic thing to do. I’m looking to meet people, have fun, and explore Europe. I’ve been many times before, but never by myself, so I’m not so sure how easy it is to meet other tourists/locals for someone traveling alone. I need some detailed advice/opinions when it comes to what your experience of traveling alone was it – is it doable, easy, and simple to meet people, or were you always isolated? I’m more concerned about meeting people than I am for getting from place to place; that shouldn’t be a problem.

Or do you think I should go on one of those tour groups that take a group of people traveling Europe by themselves? That would be easier to meet people...

Ideas/Experiences/Tips/Research I should do?

  1. The best place to go 1st is Ireland.....people are friendly and a lot of students do travel in in groups that u can be freinds with.....usually students travel by train coz it is cheap (unlimited travel to any european countries) and the best is u stay in a hostel so you will meet people who are traveling as well....well its nice to have some1 travelling with u but if u r travelling alone....thats no problem....u will easily meet people...hope in anyway i can help...its would be a great experience..

  2. I did a tour group, I went alone, and I LOVED it, it was amazing. I've travelled alone before and I liked it, but it really did get kind of lonely sometimes, it's not hard to meet people if you're staying in hostels, but it's kind of nice to have a group of friends that you become close with, which you get with a tour group. Doing the tour group was great because all of your transportation and accomodation are taken care of, thus pretty much completely removing all the stress of travelling alone. It was also nice cuz I had people to go out with at night and to eat with, but if I wanted to see something in the city that no one else did, I just went and did it my own. I actually plan to go to Egypt and Russia/Scandinavia with the same tour company that I went on to Eastern Europe because I was so impressed and had so much fun. I also found it made the travel days so much nicer because sitting on a train alone is definitely not as much fun as hanging on your bus with all your buddies sharing stories of the madness from the night before. I also found it made travelling much more economical, because a lot of our food was included and group accomodations are cheaper. That being said, travelling alone is a really cool way to see a place because you have all the freedom in the world. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at m_dubrofsky@hotmail.com

  3. If you are planning next year Start with Dublin,Ireland  for st. Patrict in March.People are friendlier than any european country and speaks english. Visit the Guinness house and get a free guinnes staight from the brewer,Jameson Distillery and be certified whiskey taster (they give u a certificate if u join the whiskey tasting),Christ chuch,TEmple bar and enjoy and dance to the Irish/Traditional music and u can easily meet people from different places.Or option is go to the west of Ireland very very nice scenery n historic sight. From Dublin take a bus or train or fly to Uk.

By bus-take euro bus but the journey is longer(the bus will go in the ferry 5 hours in the boatto holy head)from there the bus will drive 8 hrsor more to london.. We usually do by train/fly.Train-from dublin port a boat or ferry will take u to holyhead about 2 hours (Wales) then train connect straight to Pancreas in London.

Or by flying-Book a flight to Ryan air its very cheap, sometimes u can have a flight just for 10 euro return or even less.Book in advance . London is nice, lots to see but the people are not that friendly compared to the irish. From london take a train to Paris (in Pacreas) i think its 1.5 or 2 hours the train is pretty fast. Then from France u can decide which way u wanna go 1st. because theres train that goes to Belguim,amsterdam,germany,spain,italy,au... etc.Train is cheap if ur travelling more EU countries. Enjoy..
