2102 French Open: Ratchanok Intanon waylays Jie Yao in opening round of Women’s Singles event
Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon played impeccable badminton and powered her way to the pre quarter-finals of Yonex French Badminton Open on Wednesday, October 24, 2012.
This opening round match locked her in a tough competition with Jie Yao but she took just 28 minutes to place a favourable result of 21-10 and 21-14.
World Number ten shuttler employed all of her experience and brilliance in the game and dominated her rival with a splendid straight-set victory.
Meanwhile, the Dutch campaigner looked completely dazzled in front of her higher ranked opponent and crashed out of this Super Series in a disgraceful manner.
Ratchanok Intanon laid the foundation of his supremacy straight away in the beginning and maintained the upper hand all the way to final moments.
In first set of the match, she bagged three consecutive points and then gained a decent advantage with a notable figure of 7.
She did not lose focus in next couple of rallies and strengthened her grip by pocketing valuable points at a steady pace.
The Thai shuttler pushed her challenger in all areas of the court and registered a mountainous total of 11-5 before the interval.
Later part of the game was also dominated by Ratchanok Intanon as she showed consistency in her performance and finished this crucial set with a significant lead of eleven points. She gained a psychological edge by putting a convincing margin of 21-10.
Next game was also played in similar manner as Jie Yao thundered in the establishing rallies but couple of blunders brought her down in the crucial moments.
Initially, she was in strong position with a slight edge in score position and it was felt that she will survive this segment of the showdown.
However, the Dutch lady could not go with same flow and dropped many points just before half time.
Ratchanok Intanon relished full benefits of this situation and got into commanding position by piling up a mountainous total of 16-8.
She carried this rhythm all the way to game point situation and won second set with 21-14 score on the board.
Now she will lock horns with Aprilla Yuswandari and a win will take her into quarter-finals of 2012 French Open.
