Question:

21st invitation wording issues?

I've decided to make my own invitations & I'm struggling with the wording.

My parents & I are going to put a sizeable tab on the bar. However, since I don't drink wine or beer, we're including spirits mixers as well (eg. Daquiris, Bacardi Breezers, Bundy and Coke etc). We're not including top end spirits (eg shots or mixers) in the tab. It's my university Tavern, so the drinks will be cheap anyway at ~$7 for midi-sized drink.

My plan is to go clubbing after the venue closes at midnight.

I want to include something like "There will be a bar tab on the night, once that is used it will be a cash bar, and bring some money for clubbing afterwards." Obviously that is a bit blunt. I also want to suggest that the tab is for everyone, so big drinkers might like to bring some extra to make sure that everyone gets a few drinks. I'm sure my friends won't have a problem with it, however, it's still nice to be polite with these things. And not too presumptuous.

  1. That's hard.  As it's a 21 party, and the invite probably doesn't have much room for all this additional info--I think you should be as blunt as possible.  I mean I think what you said is fine or "Neither place allowed BYO.  A bar tab is provided at university Tavern.  Party will be moving to ZClub which is a cash bar"

I've always been pleased when people told me a place was cash only on the invite so that I didn't expect that I could pay with credit card and then have to leave to get cash from ATM.

As for the cash bar being for everyone--I'd just mention that at the bar.  When people get there if you notice they have had 3 drinks or whatever just say Joe man the bar tab has to last for everyone to get a couple.  No one wants to be "that guy" anyway.  Or tell them when they come in, bar tab is set up in ___ name.  so that everyone can have a drink, please only have 3 drinks.

I feel on things like this it's better to inform those who haven't been there of what you already know (drink at the Tavern b/c the club is expensive) rather than worry so much about offending someone.  After all you are all 20s--no one to take offense at you saving them a few bucks.  I remember how broke I was during those ages.
