$22.1 million 4-year deal: Rookie QB Andrew Luck official member of Indianapolis Colts – NFL News
A day earlier, Indianapolis Colts’ owner Jim Irsay said that the deal for rookie quarterback Andrew Luck was being negotiated but was nowhere closer to claim it will be agreed the next day, but a number of media reports confirmed it is
already done and signed.
The reports have cited anonymous sources claiming it is a four-year, $22.1 million contract and the payout includes $14.5 million as signing bonus.
Although later on Jim tweeted to confirm signing of the deal with the rookie, he did not elaborate its terms.
He said:
“12 is officially signed!!!!!!."
This was in contradiction with what he said a day earlier. He was commenting on the contract signing of another rookie QB Robert Griffin III who was locked in by the Washington Redskins to a similar contract.
Irsay had then refuted the doubts about participation of the rookie in training camp. He said the player will be ready well before the camp, due to open later this month.
Andrew’s agent, Will Wilson, who happens to be his uncle as well, also confirmed reaching of an agreement on terms between the two stakeholders. He did not disclose other terms of the contract either.
Nevertheless, the signing has made the player as an official QB of the team and now the entire attention is on his form and performance this season. The player is due to join the squad at training camp.
At the moment, Luck is learnt to have been working with a couple of his college colleagues to catch up on the left work. He had to attend his college soon after the draft selection and has missed almost the entire offseason programme of
the team.
He was selected as the first overall pick of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft held in April.
Since arriving in Indianapolis, Luck has impressed the onlookers and the game commentators, but the real test of his potential and skills will be during the regular season.
The training camp is going to be his major official football activity since being inducted into the Colts side. He will also have an opportunity to show-off his skills in the preseason campaign, which kicks off soon after the training
camp next month. All eyes are focused on him and his performance remains crucial to Colts’ future.
