Question:

23 month old pushes hard to go pee...why?

we just started potty training. he knows how to pee on the potty and pulls his diaper off right before or right after he goes #1 or #2. But I've noticed that every time he pees on the potty he pushes very hard. it doesn't matter if it's just a tinkle or a marathon pee that fills the bowl half way. is this just him figuring out bladder control or something else? he doesn't appear to be in any discomfort. he watched the pee come out then looks up at me and smiles, claps and gives us a high-5 when he's done. I haven't had any luck finding information about this on the web. thanks.

  1. A doc told me a while back that the urinary nerves are the last to develop in the body, especially in a boy. I bet its just him trying to figure out how to control it all and get it all out.

  2. I would say it is just a different feeling than going in a diaper.

  3. have him drink a little more... it could be he trys to soon, doesn't really have to go that much that badly so he is forcing the very little amount out...

  4. my daughter did the same thing (from 19months) she would even say "zazy pee haaard", she only recently stopped doing it, (at 30 months) but she did stop. I suppose it does help them learn to control their bladder.
