I am 23 weeks pregnant, when someone asks how far along i am , how many months do i say?

5 months 3 weeks? Which is almost 6 months i guess.

But if there are 40 weeks in pregnancy , there will be a point where i will be saying i am 10 months pregnant if i get to 40 weeks, which doesnt sound right.

So when someone asks is it okay to say i am 5 months 3 weeks or do i say i am 5 months and a week???

Thanks everyone.

  1. The Dr told me to use weeks instead of months but that if you must use months he goes by 4 weeks in a month...so

    4 weeks=1 month, 8 weeks=2 months, 12 weeks=3 months, 16 weeks=4 months, 20 weeks=5 months, 24 weeks= 6 months, 28 weeks=7months, 32 weeks=8 months, 36 weeks=9 months, 40 weeks= 10 months.  So since that is what the Dr uses that is what i go by.

I have a history of preterm labor and delivery though so the Dr just says to use weeks since fullterm isn't until 37 weeks.

  2. You said it right 5 months 3 weeks. I am 19 weeks tommorow. So I would be 4 months 3 weeks as of tommorow. So once u turn 24 weeks then ur 6 months. THink of it this way. It's 4 weeks in a month, right? So ur 24 weeks at 6 months. 20 weeks @ 5 months. I know its crazy and hard to rember, but that's how I remeber. That's how my doctor showed me. So good luck and all that grea stuff!!!!!!!!

  3. hun I was 10 and 1/2 months before I gave birth to my first. It's ok to say your 10 m but you probably won't make it that far anyway. 23 weeks is about 6 m.

  4. Weeks is always most convenient for me, since the majority of people know that a pregnancy lasts 40 weeks. Trying to figure out the months (since each month is 4.4 weeks) is very confusing.

However, you are 5.2 to 5.3 months pregnant, depending on your due date.

  5. Just tell them how many weeks you are.. and if they look confused just laugh and let them figure it out. hahaha. thats what i do.

  6. Say "I'm almost 6 months".  Or, "I'll be 6 months next week."

When they say pregnancy lasts 9 months, they are talking calendar months.  When you count weeks of gestation, it does come out to 10 months... but not calendar months because one mont is never exactly 4 weeks long.

  7. The real time a woman is to carry a baby is ten months, but usually women give birth at nine.

  8. 4 weeks does not make a month.   A month is 4.4 weeks - you are not 6 months pregnant until you re 26 weeks - that is 26 weeks = 1/2 a year =6 months.

So you are actualy 3 weeks off being 6 months.  And are just  5 months.

If you want to work in month then circle you lmp date in you diary or on a calander - if it is on the 1st of the month then you add on a month each 1st  not every 4 weeks.  Unfortunately there is no easy divide by 4 answer to get a month.

  9. I usually just say how many weeks along I am. Occasionally I get a confused look and a "well...what does that mean?" type answer...so approximate the month. Just divide how many weeks you are by 4. For you I'd say 5 months until you reach the 6th month mark..that way it doesn't seem like you are 6 months forever. When you are between 36-40 weeks, say you are 9 months. If you are overdue just say "I'm due right now!" and laugh. I'm 38 weeks right now. I usually just say 38 weeks, or 9 months to people who don't know much about pregnancy and the week system. Hope that helps. Congrats on the baby!

  10. Since most people think of pregnancy as 9 months (which it really is if you don't look at weeks - a typical month is a little longer than 4 weeks), I found it easiest to count backwards from my due date. I was due on July 30, so on June 30 I said I was 8 months, on April 30 I said I was 6 months, etc. Using that thinking, you'd be about 5 months. But it doesn't really matter. Say whatever you want! :)

  11. I would say your almost in your 6th month. But alot of times when people ask me and Im only like a couple days away from being in my next month I just tell them the amount of weeks.

  12. pregnancies are a full 9 months.. meaning technically when you are 40 weeks.. you are then entering your tenth month. you are in your 5th month right now, soon to be 6. congrats :)
